Hey Washington; how's that trade working out for ya? :heh:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9...-redskins-leadership-questioned-darrell-green

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins don't have leadership. That's a conclusion drawn by former Redskins great Darrell Green.

Green, a Hall of Famer widely considered to be one of the best cornerbacks in league history, made his assertion about Robert Griffin III and the overall state of the 3-6 Redskins on Showtime's "Inside the NFL."

"It's not very good," Green said. "It's not very good. ... I think that it's been rough, but it looks like the kid -- and I'm talking about RG III -- it looks like he's starting to get it back.

"But I just feel so bad that you would have a system where it's all predicated on this guy running. He's the second rusher on the team. It doesn't work, in my opinion."

When asked who the leader of the team was, Green said Washington didn't really have one.

"I think that's the problem," he said. "I think it's super important to have leadership, and I don't think [Griffin] really is the leader."

RG III offered a response to recent criticism, including the way he handles adversity.

"Right now, it's not a burden," Griffin said. "It's a burden if you make it a burden. You've got to believe. I understand what comes with being the quarterback of the Washington Redskins. I understand what comes with being a quarterback in the NFL. And yeah, it might be a little harder here because of certain aspects of what goes on around this team. I understand that. I've got tough skin."

While Green questioned Griffin, fellow panelist and longtime NFL receiver Cris Collinsworth raved about RG III.

"Robert Griffin is an unbelievable leader," said Collinsworth, who is also an NBC analyst. "Teams are built now around first-, second- and third-year players. They're the great majority of the players on the team. And Robert Griffin is the guy that's gonna take them where they want to go if they just leave the whole thing alone.

"Next year, you'll go, 'Oh my gosh, we almost blew it up. It would have been the dumbest thing ever.'"

Can you say: Hit Magnet? :heh:

While watching the Washington Redskins let their Thursday night matchup against the Minnesota Vikingsslip away last week, the same thought kept coming to mind:

"Man, RGIII is getting hit a lot."

Hits in the pocket, hits on the run, hits when he just as easily could have slid safely to the turf. Now 25 games into his NFL career, Robert Griffin III still hasn't learned how to avoid the type of contact that could lessen -- and shorten -- his NFL career.

"I got two good shots there in the game that I can avoid, (and I have to) take it on my part to make sure that doesn't happen," Griffin said Wednesday, via CSN Washington. "(We) just got to improve there and make sure we keep our quarterback upright. It takes all of us.

"So, yeah, I've been hit a bunch the past two games and everyone knows it, but we just have to move on."

We've heard this before, of course.
Griffin spoke often during his recovery from knee surgery about protecting himself. It's a familiar refrain by now.

"The bottom line is I just can't be taking those amount of hits in any of those games or any games in my career," he said. "You don't want to be hit that much, and a lot of the great quarterbacks don't get hit that much. A lot of things go into that and you've got to get better."

CSN Washington estimated that Griffin took eight hard hits against the Vikings. RGIII isn't built like Cam Newton. Eventually, he won't get back up.

Chris Collinsworth has some good ideas, but he's such a butt kisser at times it's hard to listen to him.

They all "kiss butt" or they don't last. they get into town look up a few team leaders throw their name out in pre-game then tout their insight when any one of them makes a play. Many times through ebb and flow of the game they call out those same players for poor plays as well.

Yeah and once in a while they adopt a vendetta, like Terry Bradshaw did against Martz.

Back though to the thread subject,I get what Green says about RG,and then I think back to what a basket case I was at his age and I wonder if I could control my own ego if I had the number of people he has kissing my butt.
It's just a wonder to me they can keep anything in perspective with all the adulation.

I'm just SOOO glad we got a kid in Sam who is so well grounded, that we play here in flyover country where the press is scant but just as disrespected:heh:.
I know next year is not guaranteed to anyone, but I think it really is ours to be had barring the devastation of injury.

I don't get the lack of space after the comma, it just makes it harder to read.

Neither will Cam.
