Here are the comp picks projected by OTC

Projected Compensatory Picks

My question is HOW IN THE HELL DOES SF GET A 3RD FOR Garapolo while we ONLY get a 5th for Mayfield? Mayfield played like a beast and Garapolo played like a girl. I know the 'formula" is allegedly $money, playing time and probably something else but no way does SF deserve a 3rd for him and we deserve more than a 5th for Mayfield. He got Tampa in the postseason while Garapolo got O'Donnel playing time.

Salary is the biggest factor in these not performance. Crapopolo was exactly that crap. But he was expensive crap.

I think because Grabapole signed such a big contract (75$ mill) and Baker was only 2.3?

Our pick got upgraded from a 6th to a 5th because Baker got a bonus for making the playoffs.

Still think our pick should of been upgraded with his playoff win to a 4th.

$4M vs. $72M

Yeah, maybe the comp formula is fucked up?

The idea of comp picks is making up for losing a player to a team willing to pay more than you. But what is equally important is what that player did for the new team (meaning he technically could have done the same for you). If a guy signs a huge deal but shits the bed, why the hell should the team who lost him be rewarded TWICE? The Raiders signing Garapolo saved SF money and they got much more out of Mr Irrelevant than they would have from JG. They need to tweak it to account more for performance. Or screw the overall contract.....look at the first year cap hit. 7 mil to 2.5+. A lot closer than 72 mil (which Garapolo will never see all of) to 2.5 mil.

$4m. $72m

Like I said, it should only be the money for the first year. Because JG ain't seeing that entire contract.

Jimmy Garoppolo signed a three year, $72.75 million contract with the Raiders. The contract $33.75 million in fully guaranteed salary**. The full guarantee consists of Garoppolo's 2023 base salary and an $11.25 salary in 2024. If on the roster on the 5th day of the 2024 league year, he will earn an $11.25 million roster bonus. In each year of the contract there are per game bonuses worth up to $1.53 million. Another $4.5 million in incentives are available based on team success and playing time.

**1.165 mil 2023 salary, 11.250 mil 2024 salary, 21.335 signing bonus = 33.75

It's 33.75 mil vs Mayfield money. And the crime here is he's probably gonna get cut before March 13th. SF could get him back, the 3rd round comp pick and make the NFL comp formula guys look like fools. Maybe that's just the thing to require a tweak of that formula.

The theory though is if you lose a guy who gets a big payday you lost an important player. May be flawed but doubt it gets changed

I realize what it IS but I'm simply saying, it shouldn't be that way. SF paid him 7 mil for 2022. The Raiders could have offered 15 mil and SF wouldn't have pursued him. So what did they really lose? The money being weighed more than performance is wrong. Here's a question.....which team lost the better QB?

@OldSchool.....true. But that old saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure" comes to mind.

And on that note I really hope somebody pays Kevin Dotson 75 mil

There's also the Cuteness factor ... Garoppolo is just adorable ... Baker ... not so much.

I'd love a 3rd for Dotson :)

Technically though should we even have gotten a 5th round pick? Bakers 2022 total earnings was just under $15 million for the 3 teams so his $6.85 million in 2023 being a decline is kind of counter to the whole formula :D

Lucky for us we only paid him $1.3 million.

And Mayfield is a much better QB than Grab-a-Pole. I'm surprised he only got a one year contract for so little money.

Regarding Comp picks. The League Year usually starts on a Wednesday. Last year, the compensatory picks were announced on the Thursday before the start of the League Year.

Tomorrow is the Thursday before the start of the 2024 League Year (a week from today).

Pretty easy formula to understand.Next year The Rams get another 3rd for Raheem ?

What upsets me the most was the Niners getting 3rd rd picks for The Jets & Dolphins HC’s .They were both in the NFL click.

Race my AZZ !!!

It's not that the Formula is difficult, and there are sites that do a very good job projecting the picks. However, the exact picks and their placement are still not finalized but should be in the next 24-30 hours.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams have been very adept at leveraging comp picks to improve their roster with skilled drafting–in 2023, they got an extremely positive example of that with Puka Nacua. This season, they don’t have as many high profile pending UFAs as they did before, but even if they’re low round comp picks, players like Coleman Shelton, Ahkello Witherspoon, Jordan Fuller, or Kevin Dotson could keep their modus operandi going. Potential: Moderate
