With the recent announcement of the Titans game postponement, I wonder if the NFL will continue with the proposed "changes" to the sideline protocol for wearing masks and associated fines. The coaches involved already have pushed back on the fines, but now that shyte is hitting fan?

On that note, here is a blurb from the article:

So, unless the prior news is completely false, this is B.S. The coaches were warned by the NFL, and McVay claimed (rightfully so) that is was due to his behavior on the sidelines during the Cowboy game opening night. He was never fined.

The coaches NOT mentioned above, that actually WERE fined, were Pete Carroll and Kyle Shanahan as I recall.

I also don't understand why they can't adjust the microphone so it is under the mask (or even built into it with a little time for development)? We have the technology! NFL usually embraces bleeding edge tech. I feel sorry for these coaches who are barking out orders while wearing masks. Throw them a bone!

And btw if I'm McVay I would take the fine every week and not wear my mask. I'm sure he can afford it. I hate walking through a store with a mask on, so fully understand them wanting to pull it off their mouths during the heat of a game.

They make eye glasses frame face shields that you wear. Instead of glasses you have a face shield. Not like coach Reeds. They are in use on movie sets while crew is around the actors. Crew likes to be comfortable. Mcvay could hide his face when he calls plays and it would mean something instead of covering his face when he already has a mask on and looking silly. Lol

Even the Andy Reid one's would be good for coaches that don't want to wear the skin tight ones. They've been proven to mostly be useless compared to the cloth ones but obviously some coaches aren't concerned about that. So I'm confused why the perpetual offenders don't just wear those. Yeah they look ridiculous but I'd take comfort and convenience over looks plus you won't get fined.

firstly, that's a way to dig deep into someone else's pocket... $100k is still a lot of money to McVay. He's not on Gruden's contract.

Also, based on what the league said, it's an escalating structure, meaning that after the $100k fine, it goes up substantially from there... likely $500k to the coach and $1M for the team. The third infraction would likely be draft picks and possible suspensions.

The NFL isn't messing around and in the Goodell era, the WORST thing you can do is to disobey the league office AFTER a memo has been sent out.

So, no, the league wouldn't allow anyone to flaunt the rules for more than 3 games, tops and if it were clear that a coach simply refused to comply, he'd be banned.

The ONLY choice is to comply.

As with the Borg and the NFL League Offices... resistance is futile.

I really hate compliance. Maybe they need to make McVay a mask built into a Darth Vader type helm with the radio and the whole nine mounted in it.

Some tech company in LA should make him one.

I'd get one of those Bane masks and have a speaker where the mic boom normally sits so it's easy to be heard over the headsets.

I think that'd be hysterical

Well draft picks are another option if fines aren't working. Besides, I really don't think Mcvay wants to be the douche that gets a false negative, breathes all over players, and then has to get creamed because half the starters are quarantined with covid

Meanwhile, at my kids Jr high game, fans were completely removing their masks. It doesn't matter to them that wearing the masks was a condition for parents to be able to watch the games. Nor does it matter to them that some high risk people are sitting close by. I'm going to be pissed if we lose the ability to watch.

It's stupid. These parents were so concerned a few weeks ago and when it was announced that we can watch if we distance and wear masks, they were all saying 'Hey that's not a problem, Ill do anything to ensure that I can watch my kid.'.

The rules are enforced at the High School level. Why not JV?
