The Texas prep [hil]suffered two major knee injuries while in high school — suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during the second game of his junior season and a torn ACL in his right knee in the fourth game of his senior campaign.[/hil] Also a standout in track and was ranked as high as the fourth fastest runner in the 100-meter dash in the state. Redshirted in 2008. Led the team with 1,097 all-purpose yards in ’09 in 12 games (five starts). Caught 45 passes for 629 yards (14.0-yard average) and a team-high eight touchdowns to go with 15 kickoff returns for 320 yards (21.3-yard average) and 15 rushing attempts for 98 yards (6.5-yard average) and zero touchdowns. Started eight of the 11 games in which he played in ’10 and led the team in receiving yards after posting 35-514-4 (14.7). Also contributed 16-63-2 (3.9) on the ground, 24-435-0 (18.1) as a kickoff returner and one punt for 10 yards to again lead the team with 1,022 all-purpose yards. Was suspended for the season-opener against Presbyterian for violating team policy. Returned a fumble against Duke 18 yards for a score. Set the school’s single-season record for receiving yards in ’11 after hauling in 83-1,330-9 (16.0) to break Ricky Proehl’s 1989 mark. Compiled 1,440 all-purpose yards to lead the team for the third straight season, adding 14-77-0 (5.5) on the ground, 1-18-0 (18.0) as a kickoff returner and 1-15-0 (15.0) as a punt returner. Has two career fumbles, both in ’09. Finished his career having caught at least one pass in 28 straight games.

Positives:

Solid build — well-proportioned with lean definition. Bench-pressed 225 pounds 19 times at the Combine. Big-time stopwatch speed. Good balance. Fluid movement skills. Quick-footed to stutter and get a corner’s hips turned. Adjusts to throws. Able to run through/under throws once he separates. Works back to the quarterback. Nice boundary awareness. Quick, agile after the catch.

Negatives:

Very small hands. Average burst and slot quickness. Was stressed by the speed of Florida State CBs Xavier Rhodes and Greg Reid. Line release needs work — struggles to get off the jam. Unpolished route runner — drifts into patterns and does not always run with conviction. [hil]Prone to alligator arms[/hil] and drops some throws he shouldn’t (see Mississippi State). Needs to toughen up. Average competitiveness. [hil]Exhibits petulant body language and thinks he’s better than he is[/hil]. Only one season of big production. Knees must be evaluated.

Summary:

Quick-footed receiver who was a productive focal point of the Wake Forest passing game but could have used another year of seasoning. Lacks exceptional traits and projects as a complementary receiver capable of lining up inside or at flanker, though he lacks ideal toughness to work between the numbers. [hil]Flashes a “wow” factor[/hil] and some playmaking ability and measurables will intrigue and could allow to be drafted much earlier than he consistently grades on tape.
