I don’t get the hype around this guy. He had Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes at QB but still managed to look pedestrian in his time with Texas Tech. He is fired and suddenly he is a hot commodity because McVay offered him a job?

Me either, IMO, Steve Keim really liked McVay and went with a young offensive coach he could get. I guess there have been NFL Head Coaches that have moved on to college and done well, but he had a losing record at Tech and the Cardinal defense is a mess, I'm interested to see who they hire to coordinate the defense, don't be shocked if it's Gregg Williams.

Because he's a QB whispererer

I'll throw this out there:
In addition to age, looks and a prolific offense, imagine if one NFL coach was responsible for Dak Prescott, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, and Ryan Fitzpatrick. That'd be a heck of a draft record. All of those guys are NFL caliber QBs drafted after the second round. Looking at the bust rate for first round QB's, that hypothetical draft record on lower picked QBs would be either an incredible case of luck or some sign of skill.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but that's the type of sales pitch for Kingsbury. Mahomes, Mayfield, Manziel, and Davis Webb were all mediocre 3-star recruits. Case Keenum was a 2-star recruit. All linked to Kingsbury. The Cardinals are hoping it's a sign of skill. If Kingsbury could turn and cultivate mediocre talent into NFL level talent, the hope/thinking/prayer/sales pitch (in the eyes of a desperate NFL team) is that he'll turn high quality talent, like high 1st round draft choice Josh Rosen, into something truly special. It's a QB league, after all.

Edit: Yeah, I get it. Some Rams fans want to think it's all because of McVay. Uh, no, it's not.

none of those guys play defense and his offenses have been one of the highest scoring in the FCS with those great QBs. yes its typically easier to score in the big12, yes he has flaws, yes his defenses usually suck, but none of that changes the fact that his offenses are very good schematically and that hes a smart offensive mind

On the one hand:
USC used to be called Tailback-U. Now they seem to be working on earning the title of Train Wreck-U.

On the other hand:
Yeah, Swanny initially denied permission for KK to talk to NFL teams. But it didn't make sense to me that USC signed two 4-star tight end recruits. Maybe it's my misconception, but to my knowledge, KK offenses are not good for TEs and 4-star TEs don't exactly grow on trees. Seemed . . . odd.

Talk, and it seems more likely to me, is that Swanny relented and let KK interview rather than force KK to buy himself out/resign. In other words, Jay Glazer's speculation is probably wrong. BTW, it's an odd new NFL rule, enforced at the NFL level, that requires teams to get permission from the College before interviewing.

I wonder how much of a panic hiring this was by the Cards. I think McD and another candidate declined to be interviewed by the Cards. I wonder if the Cards got scared that they might have to go dumpster diving (well, more so than KK), for a new coach.

Failing up faster . . . the Lane Kiffin way.

I haven't seen any ideas for a veteran DC coaching presence. I think Spags would be neat back in the division.

Josh Rosen got a UofA sorority girl in his hot tub back in college. Just wait for KK to show him how to really get AZ women into a hot tub. Coach mentoring a player is what it's all about, right?

Football-wise, unless there's some strong assistant coaching hires, I don't see much of a Cards threat in the future.

Matt Lienart should be the new OC

People want the next McVay. I get it. But the reality is, and while some hires may work out with younger guys, McVay is a bonafide genius. He’s a special person and it isn’t all about him being young and hip to a new generation of NFL style of play. He just happens to be someone who has NFL royalty in his blood and his been doing this his whole life.

Say What ?? I know this Shanahan is the one The Rams need to worry about .He is a solid NFL who is only getting better.

McVay is all about we, not me !! He allows his coaches to bring things to the table each week. He wanted Kingsbury to join The Rams to learn .

Maybe NFL head coaches should be given more inexperienced young college position coaches more assistant jobs.

It’s the best way to get new blood into the league.

Hiring them to be the head coach straight from college is the wrong way to do it. If for no other reason than to learn and adapt to the culture change.

Sure Jimmy Johnson made the jump but Saban , Schiano, and even Chip Kelly failed to bring their college mojo to the bigger stage. Just adapting to coaching men instead of boys is a challenge. Then beating teams with fewer holes to exploit and coaches with NFL experience is a tough road to tow.

So Kingsbury will run two years of Air Raid offense, amass a 10-22 record, and the Cards will look for a new coach in 2022. Awesome plan.

I'm not laughing at this hire. He might end up being pretty good, or better. Only time will tell. I'm pretty sure their O will be better next year than it was this year.
