Jeff Fisher Football won his first game as a USFL HC when his Michigan Panthers beat the Pittsburgh Maulers this past Sunday.

When interviewed after the game Jeff Fisher Football reportedly said, "It's good to get that first win out of the way. Now we only need 6 more to reach our goal and finish at 7 and 9."

When reminded that the USFL season is only 10 games long a notably upset Jeff Fisher Football quickly ended the interview and stormed out of the room.

There are two words you hardly ever see together.

As a HC, Fisher was a C average student.

Can a student with a C average compete academically? No. Not even close.
However - for students used to getting F's and failing out, a C average is a big fucking step in the right direction and that's what Fisher was for us, IMO.

Plus we had great defenses.
If Fisher had only learned how to build an offensive line correctly, he would have been fine.

Notice that the first thing McVay did was sign Whitworth and a veteran Center in John Sullivan.

Man Jeff Fisher was a godsend compared to the two assclowns before him.

yep, but he was a bridge coach until the rams got a real nfl coach. the nfl had long passed old school coaches like fisher.

stan wanted the rams out of the gutter but not good enough to thwart his desire to go back to LA. fisher was the perfect coach for that plan.

Not one newly hired coach in 2012 had any success to speak of. Bad year to hire a head coach!

You could say Fisher was a C coach, since C is average, but he was a .500 coach. .500 as in 50%, and 50% is an F.

In the NFL, winning half your games isn't failure, it's mediocrity.

If you remember the Linehan/Spagnuolo era, you would agree that they were the epitome of FAILURE.
1 or 2 wins a season? That's an F.
If thats an F, 7-9 is a C ....

But sure, if we want to apply grades based on NFL winning percentages then yes, Fisher and every other coach we've had has been a failure -
Except Mcvay - who's .694 % would translate to a D+ .... the 5th highest grade ever achieved in the NFL.... w

In my opinion, Jeff Fisher would still be a good NFL coach if he fixed two things. He needed alter the gameplan to fit the players he had on the team. Also, Fisher always needed to hire someone decent as an offensive coordinator. I do not know why he never flanked himself with a good OC. Was it an ego thing or was he just not desirable to work with?

Fisher should get as much credit as he is due. The Rams defense and special teams were bottom of the barrel when he came here. Made building those units up a priority and by the time he left, our D was average to above average and special teams at the top of the league.
Our drafts and UDFAs improved almost instantly too.

Offensively he was stuck in the early 2000s. He lacked vision in that aspect, IMO. QB injuries didn't help. And we needed more impact players on that side of the ball and fewer draft picks who took years to develop, if they did at all.

He got us heading in the right direction but we got to a point where we were stuck in neutral. Needed McVay to take us the rest of the way.

For being a HC for so long, Fisher has a surprisingly small coaching tree. None of his offensive coordinators ever became a head coach. It was basically a dead end job, IMO.
