Seriously, I was housesitting an old farmhouse right after college (free rent, and lowpaying starting job) and they had box after box in one of the barns of almost every year of Playboy up to that point. And while I appreciated the pictures - the articles were killer. Playboy paid way above the usual rate for excerpts from top writers, for great feature articles, for interviews with big names, etc - because that provided the cover for their photospreads. By the '80s the photospreads were tame - but the interview of the month was usually great, great fiction, excellent other articles. And they let many writers do their thing while supporting themselves with Playboy stories or articles as a small part of their time spent writing.
Absolutely it was a who's who of literary heavyweights. I remember the controversy caused by Jimmy Carter being interviewed in Playboy while running for president. Couldn't turn those pages fast enough so I had to remove those pics getting in the way of my reading to my treehouse walls.

That's Him. My buddy actually had a beer named after him, and knows Jeremy well.
Nice. Not too familiar with their beers under the revision label. Met Jeremy a handful of times and used to homebrew with the head brewer. Good people.

I have a couple barley wines
(technically a very high malt, high alcohol ale)
that I made in my brewery that are 10+ years old, one is 15 years old and every time I open a bottle, it has developed different notes. It is stored like a wine and shows no signs of turning.

I will PM you with my shipping address.

Those old Hamms commercials from the late 50's and 60's were the best ever, loved the Bear
train

And the beer signs with the rushing water were way cool as well.
(youngun's don't know what they missed).

Hamms the Beer refreshing Hamms! Still playing in my head. Probably why I've decorated my man cave with old beer signs.

OK....How much?

BTW - (sympathy ploy) - I had shoulder surgery last Friday - in a lot of pain, and not really sure I’ll pull through.....
Getting up there in years, as you have so often pointed out.

A 10 year old malty brew-wine just might do the trick.

Everything's cool. Just old man Labrum tear/Rotator cuff/Bicep tendon stuff.
Been dealing with it for about a year, had a couple of cortisone shots, and finally said, "OK, cut away".

Surgery was last Friday, Saturday I wanted to off myself, Sunday was much better, and haven't had a pain pill since Sunday nite - so it's going very well. Finally had my first shower this morning - which was great - funny the things you take for granted.

So again, all's well, except that I don't have any 10 year old malty stout! :(

Probably not - but if you got your butt to the other side of the state like you said you were going to.. ..;)

I actually did last August, but stayed at Stateline, South Shore, had the dog with me....etc.
All in all, not a great trip. Crowded as hell, 90 degrees, we stayed on the main highway which is busier than the Strip.

Anyway, I owe Mari another one, but it will be somewhere somewhat isolated on the north shore, closer to you, no dog, and no one day drive each way. Did get to go soaring, (which was a b'day present from Mari, and the purpose of the trip), so there's that.

Tahoe is a zoo these days. We spend our time at the many other lakes around here - Stampede, Boca, Frenchman's are all really nice. And no zoo. Granted, no casinos or restaurants but it all depends on what you're after.

Wanted to share this beer I just encountered at a german restaurant. This one's really a cut above the norm if like me you prefer a smooth amber with a good finish.

I’ve seen that beer while in KC area, but don’t think I’ve tried it. Their whole beer menu looks SWEET!

Dunkels are great, unappreciated beer style. If you see the franziskaner (sp?) Dunkel, it's a good one to try and is available at most stores with a decent beer selection. Hofbrau has another readily available dunkel as well.
