I got to admit, I kind of enjoyed reading this.

It’s early on a Sunday morning... that felt like it was written after a few shots of espresso.

You can run on our team on a good day but it'll be hell trying to catch up and play from behind with this pass rush and secondary. Which teams should be doing most of the time with this offense.

It's the perfect storm.

I think attacking Whitworth all game long will be the key---so that GOff doesn't trust him anymore. Yep, I mean, literally, having guys beat on him the entire game. Watch the "all 22" film and see how guys take it easy on him...really, I mean he sort of position blocks and lets the play that goes away from him be a 'free' play---the DE doesn't mess with him and kinda takes the play off, too. I would beat him up for 1 1/2 quarters, and then send the stallions after him. He didn't look so great the last 4-5 games. He will slip more. 37 this season, and I don't think he is so strong, though he still has great movement skills...he is slipping. I know, I know, he was the glue that held the WHOLE offense together in 2017. Well, that season is over. (watch the last 4-5 games last year: 5-6 sacks).

Jamon Brown is good, so even as bad as he is 'rated' by PFF or whoever, he is still a very good guard in the Rams system. The Rams are not a power blocking scheme despite 4 guys at 325+ lbs..which is wierd, but then the 2001 Rams couldn't run beween the tackles either (discounting draws, and runs on 3rd and 8 etc).

So, all that means: you can't attack the Rams very well, if your hope is to beat up the LT.

Part of Whitworth sliding a bit is he injured an ankle (I think it was his ankle).
Hard to tell how much was the ankle. If he got old the second half of the season it will show up right away this year.....week 1 with Mack coming around the corner will be a test, although I am going after Havenstein with Mack as he will give him problems.
Brown is the weakest link on the line. He improved massively but still gave up a lot of pressures last year. He was bailed out by the ball coming out quickly plenty of times. I am looking forward to seeing if he takes another step this year, he needs to, because his weak link is still pass blocking. He still has trouble maintaining contact with a pass rusher....they get off of him completely too often....and he still lunges at times pass blocking and gets over his toes. The first two games with Blythe (I am assuming) at RG I doubt we would see a drop off pass blocking. Brown is a big guy and for a big guy he was effective getting downfield and run blocking the second level, which awesome and rare. I'm not down on Brown as he improved massively. But, he needs to upgrade hismpass blocking.
Havenstein against a speed guy like Mack that can get low is a struggle, he will need help.
My point?
Even if Whitworth has a little slide he is not the weak link on the line.

Great Post! And, I totally agree! Right now (Especially, WHEN!) AD reports to camp I honestly think the Rams are the only team that can beat the Rams this season! IF, The Rams can stay healthy and avoid costly turnovers I really think they will be the NFL Champions this season (And, Hopefully, Many more in the coming future!)! I still would like to see them beat the Patriots in a Super Bowl rematch!

I expect defensive coordinators to attack the Rams defense with swing passes and short screens. Trying to get the ball out quick and avoid a quick rush from up the middle. Attacking Rams new LB's making them cover short passes. They will also try and get their RB's to the edge.

McVay plans on getting a lead and making oponets catch up. With Wade DL and DB's, good luck with that.

We'll se how effective Rams can counter in pre season.

i thought about this as well......if the linebackers can do a decent job at stopping long gains and just limit them small passes for 3-6 yards we can only hope they are facing 3rd and 8's and 3rd and 9's.....we also have alot of depth in the secondary this year that i love.....talib..peters...nrc....sheilds....along with hill.....its a good problem to have

Exactly right about teams falling behind. We'll see if teams can run against the Rams D even on a good day for their offense. Don't think there will be much up the middle. Don't think they'll be able to run consistently for first downs. They'll have to go to the outside, mix it up with short passes in the flat, try to catch linebackers out of position. Things will get ugly if they don't gain yards on first or second down. Things will get ugly all the time if they fall more than a td behind.

Our glaring weaknesses going into the season will be run defense and edge rush. I expect teams will try to beat us by keeping our defense on the field while trying to tire them out.
For our offense, the Rams will be their own worst enemy if McVay has one of those days where he forces the pass.

Teams will sell out to stop Gurley. So I expect Goff's early season numbers to be very good. After a few weeks of secondaries gettin torched things will equalize.

IMO the best approach for this type of offense is a tampa 2 type defense with guys who break on ball and hit. And speed at LB to shadow TG. But most defenses won't have enough to stop this offense.

VS the Rams defense mash the ball. Until they show they can stop it.

Any team could beat us on any given day.....but that day will extremely rare this year, imo. The nearness of a Super Bowl Championship is the most real I've felt since the 2001 season. I really feel that way. no BS.

It's a lightning storm this year and the Rams have a wide mouthed bottle to catch it.

LBer is our "weakest spot" on D with arguably the best three man front in football .. and a scary (on paper) secondary
the linebackers will be who i attacked

as for the number one offense in football last year
"how do you beat them"
"in bed ..at night ..with a stick..while they slept"

i believe this as well.....try to stop gurley and when they face the facts and start respecting goff as a thrower this offense will prove its very hard to stop.....

Attacking the Rams Offense:

(1) Attack Gurley. Use +1 defender in the box, not necessarily 8 in the box.

(2) Attack the Rams' play action game. Looking at vids, I didn't realize how frequently the Rams only sent 2 or 3 pass receivers into the pattern -- feels totally anti-Martz. Watkins' TD against NYG and Woods' TD against Hou were just 3 receiver patterns. When Hacksaw Hamilton says "everyone into the pattern", he's not talking the Rams' 2017 offense.

(3) Use combo coverages. If the defense can play tight man, it opens up more options for the defense. (Yes, Cook has speed, but he's not getting past a properly positioned safety.)

(4) Make Goff pay, because the quarterback must go down and he must go down hard. (Yes, Cook has speed, but a slow developing deep route is still a slow developing deep route.)

Yes, I "borrowed" from 2 Baldinger vids:
