I live down in South Florida, and listen to sports radio all day, well one of the co-hosts of the morning show is our former center Brett Romberg. He frequently tells stories about his times in St Louis and Atlanta. They were talking about Matt Ryan and the whole draft where we took Chris Long #2 overall. He said when Chris Long came into camp he was absolutely horrible, getting manhandled by scout team tackles. One of the worst rookies he had initially seen. Maybe that explains a lot as to why he didn't start most of that first year? ( if I remember correctly) just a quick bit I thought I'd share, I thought it was interesting.

Long started all 16 games in his rookie year, and he was playing on the Right side which IMO was he main reasons for his "struggles" early in his career. When he moved to LE after the departure of Leonard Little, Long lead the league in QB pressures and was among the top in QB hits in 2010. It was at this time when his sack total would get much higher up until the injuries would take over. He is playing Right OLB during most of his downs as a Patriot though and in around half snaps he had a solid season

Yeah I noticed after I had time to look it up, I must have been thinking about Quinn in his first year when I was talking about starting only a few games in his rookie year

Correct! and I might add, in Chris's 2nd year, 2009, he only started 4 games. In his 3rd-4th-5th and 6th year he had 41 sacks! not too bad!(y);):D

Long suffered from the long lasting obsession of casual fans only counting number stats. For a long time I jokingly kept the Chris Long bust countdown going in my signature; mostly because people wouldn't be happy until he hit double digit sacks. Meanwhile the rest of us paying attention noted (like @biggame1190 pointed out) Chris was doing all the little things extremely well and was basically unlucky when it came to putting the nail in the coffin.

As some may remember that Brett Romberg was MY BOY! He opened some holes for SJ39 for a few games he got to start. Chris Long was the heart and soul of the Rams. Players rallied around Chris Long. He may not have had the most talent but, he never gave up. Very good fundamental player.

Long would have been better as a 3/4 OLB. His college coach stated that very thing.

I remember that and agree.

i honestly and genuinely believe that most of Quinn's sacks came because Chris flushed the QB his way ...our D line was alway at its best when Chris was in there

Brett's awesome and I liked him a lot too, also because I'm a Miami hurricanes fan lol.

He looks nothing like that now, he's lost a ton of weight , good for him.

FOXBOROUGH, Ma. — Chris Long had a decision to make last spring. At 30 years old and several seasons removed from a spate of double-digit sack campaigns, he knew he wanted to leave the Rams, who hadn’t reached the playoffs in his eight NFL seasons. There were a handful of attractive options for the four-down defensive end, a former second overall pick who could be had on the cheap.

The Lions, Cowboys and Falcons were all interested, but Long left money on the table and took a one-year deal with the Patriots for $2.3 million, with only $1 million guaranteed.

“I had never hit the market before, but I knew where I wanted to be,” he said last Sunday, standing in front of his locker minutes after the Patriots won the AFC championship at Gillette Stadium. “If I didn’t have an opportunity to play somewhere I could win, I would have retired. I would have played this year for five dollars—I just wanted to be here.”

I like Chris Long, definitely one of my favorite Rams of all time... but I hope the Falcons demolish them.
