My wife installed this thing in my house last week. She's so proud of herself. I think it's creepy that this thing is in my house listening to everything. Anyone else have this gadget spying on them? I asked Alexa who won the 2000 Super Bowl and she/it responds, "the Los Angeles Rams". What??????

It probably searches the internet, so it comes up with LA Rams since that's the current name.

Yeah, you'd think an Internet search would return St Louis Rams since that's who won the 2000 Super Bowl. It boggles my mind how these things work.

If you Google 2000 Super Bowl it returns "Champion Los Angeles Rams" from the wiki (which no doubt updated when the Rams wiki page changed to LA Rams)... These things usually just pull from google or other search members. They can't reason like a person does, so to them the St Louis or Cleveland Rams don't exist, just like the LA Rams didn't exist to them last year.

I know but you'd think there are plenty of databases that have Super Bowl champions listed. I guess there has to be an order for things like ECHO to query and I suppose Google gets the nod these days.

Well, that may be their marketing for people like me that feels a little uneasy about the ease dropping capabilities of the Echo but reality says if the thing activates every time you say "Alexa", it has to be listening to be able to hear somebody say, "Alexa". I'll just mess with the system and ask it what's the best way to dismember corpses, best place to bury them, and most efficient bomb making techniques from time to time. (y)

I was thinking about getting one. I play music on the internet all the time. It would be much easier just to tell that thing to play something for me.

I have to admit it is good at that. It tells jokes too.

I got the wife one for X-Mas. We primarily use it for playing music in the kitchen when we have company over. One word of caution. We had a power blip a few weeks ago (at 3:30am), and when that Alexa comes back to life, she announces herself and it sounded like an 8 foot woman yelling in my kitchen. I had to peel my wife off the ceiling.....

Haha. We have a lot of windy days in our neighborhood and our power flicks a lot. That would be crazy to have a loud voice in the kitchen at 3am.
