It's a gamble that he signs elsewhere on the franchise tag. Granted they get compensated for it but a team like the Browns that has more cap space and double the draft picks could easily offer him a contract they couldn't or wouldn't match. It's also gambling that you don't sour the relationship with the player and with the fans.

If you offer the exclusive tag, he can't sign elsewhere.

I’m wondering if his wording is off and that’s 800k for the whole year. With some other numbers coming out it would make more sense.

I wonder how it really shakes out........

If you offer the exclusive tag, he can't sign elsewhere.

Foles and Griffin (even more so) recently and plenty of others have taught us early sudden success is not a predictor for long term success in every case.

I would have tagged him too, and if the year was going well then I would have thrown a deal on the table.

You guys really think he's gonna fall on his face? Sure it's only been seven games, but it's hard to fake athleticism and a lightning-quick release. What, you expect him to go all Markelle Fultz and add a hitch to his delivery? And remember, this is the same guy whom Bill Belichick wanted as the heir apparent to Brady and who reportedly caused a rift within the Patriots when he was traded. Ya, I just can't really see how this is good for the Rams at all, but it'll be great for the rivalry.

I watched all Jimmy G’s snaps. With NFL shortcuts I was able to watch each game and each of his snaps in 30 minute condensed form - per game. Basically all his snaps in under 3 hours not counting the season finale that we all watched live.

Breakdown:

First 4 games:
Seattle - 2 passes for 18 yards
Chicago - 0 TD 1 int vs a bad defense
Houston 1 TD 1 int vs a bad defense
Tenn 1 TD 0 int vs an average defense

Last two games:
Jacksonville - 2 TD 1 int vs a great defense though Bortles ints put them in great field position.
Rams - 2 TD 2 int vs second string.

Summary: Unimpressive vs three bad teams but impressive vs Tenn and Jacksonville.

Overall impression from game film:

Quick release and feet. Great poise and veteran looking control of offense. Smart decisions. Vast majority of throws were over the middle of the field in the 7-10 yard range. Very accurate and quick with that throw. Very little sample size for throws down the field past 15 yards. Inaccurate when attempted. Example, Rams game. See Peterson pick. Ball inaccurate and hung. This same inaccuracy was evident in previous games. Looks good in Shanny’s offense.
Could produce much better with improved WR’s in 2018.

49ers are Gambling big time on him. But going into year two with a QB that knows the system well and has shown flashes at this level is probably their best option, even if he’s not worth half of what they are paying.

I jut laughed when I read that he got this deal. Don’t get me wrong, I think he will be solid. But in no fucking way is this dude most-money-ever-good. lol

How the hell did they not tag him or give like a 2 year-30mil prove it deal. Luckily they have the space so they can get it sonfront loaded. But that shit is stupid. Guys like him and soon, Cousins will get paid more than Rogers, Breeze, Brady, Stafford and Ryan....yea, that makes since lol

I read somewhere don't have the link but this contract raises the franchise tag for a QB by $2.6 million this year.

FWIW's Jimmy Garoppolo scares me to death, I realize it's a small sample size, but I felt he looked very good and can move in the pocket as well....One of my Ram comrades has assured me he's overrated and New England would not have traded him, if he was that good...IMHO, the Patriots finally made a huge mistake and they had to it with the 49ers I might be overthinking it, but IMHO, I think the 49ers have one heck of a Quarterback here and I liked him very much coming out of Eastern Illinois.

den,
this is exactly what I saw in the Whiner games I watched on Directv.
This kid just looks and acts and plays like a quality NFL QB. I had to do a double take and remind myself that this guy had just learned the offense and had absolutely no experience or track record with the receiving corps.
We also have to remember that the Whiner's best receiver, Pierre Garcon, was already injured and out for the year and all Garoppolo had to throw to was M. Goodwin and a rookie TE named Kittle.
In spite of those issues he looked very comfortable and efficient.
Having said all of and in light of these facts it is incumbent upon the Rams, IMO, to improve our secondary and especially our corner back play or this dude is going to light us up.
Just sayin'
