The Seahawks are reportedly losing one of their defensive stalwarts for the season.

Defensive tackle Brandon Mebane suffered a torn hamstring in Sunday’s win vs. the Giants, an injury that will end his 2014 campaign, Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reported Tuesday.

The 29-year-old Mebane has started 65 regular season games in a row for Seattle (6-3). He’s notched 20 tackles and one sack this season.

Ex-Viking Kevin Williams is expected to take over for Mebane.

The loss of Mebane is another dose of bad injury news for the defending-champion Seahawks, who had 16 players on the injury report last week.

The 49ers have officially brought linebacker Patrick Willis’s season to an end.

Shortly after reports on Tuesday indicated that Willis would need season-ending toe surgery, the 49ers announced

The 49ers have gotten used to life without Willis in the last two weeks and they’ve learned that rookie Chris Borland is ready to play at the NFL level in the process. As well as Borland has played, it’s hard to imagine that the 49ers won’t miss a player with Willis’s as they try to make it back into the playoffs over the final seven weeks of the regular season.

Borland has been lining up next to Michael Wilhoite at inside linebacker and it looks like that will continue to be the case for at least a while longer with NaVorro Bowman still experiencing pain in his surgically repaired knee.

The 49ers also announced that they have signed running back Alfonso Smith. Smith played 42 games with the Cardinals over the last three seasons and was with the Niners during training camp.

I have no idea how SF can keep finding these linebackers but it's crazy how much depth they have every year.

Again it showcases how in depth jrry32 does in his college evaluations...Wanted the Rams to draft Chris Borland in many of his mocks time and time again.

Interestingly, didn't we come thiiiiiiiiis close to signing Mebane a few years ago, after the 'Hawks won the division at 7-9? Wish we could have pulled that off, guy's a gamer. And maybe the 'Hawks would have been worse enough to not win it all. Or at all.

Seahawks put Zach Miller on injured reserve

Seahawks tight end Zach Miller’s season is over.

Coach Pete Carroll confirmed today that Miller, who has been out since suffering an ankle injury in Week Three, will be placed on injured reserve. Miller had ankle surgery in Week Four, but the surgery didn’t completely fix his ankle injury, and now he’ll need a second surgical procedure. That will keep him out until 2015.

When healthy, Miller was Seattle’s best tight end, so that’s a significant loss. The rest of the Seahawks’ depth chart at tight end consists of Tony Moeaki, Luke Willson, Cooper Helfetand Rashaun Allen.

I love how injuries are a legit concern and are talked about ad nauseam for these two teams.

But when a team, say loses their starting QB, star DE, starting LT, and never have all 4 top CBs on the field at teh same time, it's considered "excuses."
