Rams Draft Recap:
1st.- No pick from Goff trade.
2. TE Evan Engram (Ole Miss)- Will be an unstoppable weapon
in McVay's offense. The Rams more athletic version of Jordan
Reed. He would instantly become Goff's security blanket. Hes a
matchup nightmare for any defense! 1st round talent in the 2nd
round. I had to move up a few spots to snag him. Hes made to be
in McVays offense.
3. CB Ahkello Witherspoon (Colorado)- A tall (6'3), long, and fast CB
to pair with Trumaine Johnson or possibly replace him if he leaves
in Free Agency next year. He can certainly become a #1 or #2 CB. His ball
skills (defending passes) are some of the best in this deep CB class.
4. WR Chad Hansen (Cal)- A little bit raw coming from the Cal
offense but he has some upside. Hes got great hands, size (6'2 205lbs)
and catch radius. If there was more tape other than 1 full year he could
be going higher in this draft. He will probably be used as a more
vertical WR and on screens in his first year while he learns a NFL offense.
Should develop into a #2 WR at worst. WR is a wide open competition on
the Rams. Maybe only Robert Woods is locked in as a starter. Depending
on how fast he learns the offense he theoretically could compete to start.
5. C Jon Toth (Kentucky)- A 4 year starter facing the best defenses
in the country. Everytime I watch him hes holding his own vs NFL
level talent. Happy to grab him in the 5th round. Hes got the measurables,
the size, and length to play other positions along the O line if need be. Wouldnt
at all be surprised to see him starting on the Rams O-line as a rookie.
5. OLB Ejuan Price (Pittsburgh)- Hes undersized in height but hes a little
wrecking ball in his 5'11 frame. Hes got a thick build and can get leverage
on bigger offensive lineman. Hes fun to watch and can contribute right away
as a pass rusher. If he was taller he would be going much earlier in this draft.
Reminds me of Elvis Dumerville.
6. OT Dieugot Joseph (Florida Int.)- This is a hail mary throw on a developmental
LT/RT. He has the measurables (long arms/athleticsm) to develop into a starting LT or RT.
He can sit behind Whitworth and learn and develop. This would put Kromer's coaching to the test.
6. RB Jamaal Williams (BYU)- Will be an upgrade as the Rams #2 RB. If Gurley goes
down (pray to the football gods that doesnt happen) I have no doubt he could be a bell
cow and a lead back. He doesnt got speed to burn but what he does have is very
good vision and feet. Not to mention hes physical at 210+ lbs. He will probably spell
Gurley and get a few carries a game. His running style/build I compare to Leveon Bell.
7. WR Josh Malone (Tenessee)- Big, tall (6'3), and fast WR in the 7th round! Hes still
only 21 years old making him one of the youngest players in the draft. He could be
used on deep routes and special teams to start his career while hes developed. Has
alot of upside for being a 7th round pick. Was very surprised he was still on the board here.
Hes certainly a boom or bust player but what the hell its the 7th round right?
I went with a heavy offensive draft because lets face it, that was the Rams biggest weakness by far
last season and all the years before it. We need to give our young franchise QB a chance by giving
him some much needed weapons and protection. The way the draft fell I didnt want to force picks on
defense. I stuck to my board and for the most part took the BPA. This is the first time I have done a mock draft with 31 other active GMs. I had a blast and will definitely want to participate again! So many knowledgeable draftniks on this site! @Alan thanks for all the time and effort put into all this. Cheers to everyone and Alan.
