or taking what the defense gives you.Clearly McVay is a take what the defense gives you kind of guy. If I were a defensive coordinator I would “convince” McVay to keep Gurley from touching the ball too much by baiting him into throwing the ball all night. Atlanta did that I’n the playoffs last year. Do you think McVay should Establish the run no matter what the defense is showing? I was hopeful that Goff was better than he showed tonight, but without a credible run game, play action is fantasy.

I think you still have to attempt to run the ball, keeps defense honest, opens play action, always a chance to break one, and tonight throwing wasn't any better. Gurley has always seemed to be rhythm runner, the more touches the better he gets.

Im sure if Gurley is feeling like he is getting shaft, he'll say something about it. Dude isnt the shy type.

It's fair to criticize McVay for this game. He needed to adjust something.. running the ball maybe was one of them.

Especially when they were playing a nickel defense the entire time.

I would have rather run the ball 25 times for 50 yards and take my chances rather than what I saw tonight.

Only problem with that is Gurley would have been beaten up.

Most teams can't stuff the Rams' outside zone running game. Last team to do that was New Orleans. In order to stuff the Rams' run game you have to have the players who can actually do it. This isn't checkers. Chicago, btw, also has a better secondary on top of that.

Sometimes the other team wins. Bears were the better team tonight, and tbh it's not a bad thing for the Rams to lose a game like this now. Back to the drawing board, where McVay can have a good gameplan ready for if he draws Chicago in round 2 in the playoffs. We're still gonna get the bye, it ain't the end of the world just yet for us.
