Whatever a franchise or marquee quarterback is, neither the Jets nor the Bills have one. Are the Rams in the same position? Some here would argue 'yes,' while others would say 'no.' But it will be interesting to see how the Bills, Jets, and Rams handle this for the upcoming season.

With no franchise quarterback, Bills planning to build around defense and run game

During his tenure as head coach of the Jets, Rex Ryan never had a star quarterback to build his offense around and that led the team to try to win around defense and the run game.
Ryan is now in Buffalo and it looks like that experience will come in handy. During an appearance on Sirius XM NFL Radio with Jim Miller and Solomon Wilcots on Thursday, General Manager Doug Whaley said that the team’s immediate path to success will be built around the same things that got him off to a fast start with their AFC East rivals.
“We don’t have a marquee quarterback. Everybody knows that,” Whaley said. “But we have a championship defense and if we can build it inside out on the offensive line and run the ball, that was the recipe that took the Jets to two straight AFC championships when Rex got the job. So we’re excited and that’s the blueprint that we’re gonna have to play until we find that franchise quarterback.”
Whaley didn’t mention the next four years of Ryan’s tenure with the Jets when the team failed to make the playoffs largely because their offense couldn’t compete at a high enough level, but it’s a realistic approach for the team to take as they prepare for the 2015 season without an easy answer to their quarterback need. The acquisition of guard Richie Incognito fits within that framework and it should make holding onto Jerry Hughes a high priority for the team with free agency approaching quickly.
