Sam Rogers was one of those players that seemed to cause a lot of excitement during last year's draft, especially from Sean McVay. We didn't see him at all last year, do you think there will be room for him on the game-day O this year?

I know he signed a futures contract at the start of the year, but that's been it.

Will McVay use a FB/HB this year?

IMO, no. I have been critical of Sam Rogers from the time the Rams drafted him and he did nothing in preseason to turn my head and make me feel otherwise. Rams will carry 4 Tight Ends with three being active on game and one in line tight end that can block....As Rogers will find out this season that Los Angeles is not his neighborhood again JMHO.

Can you see him sticking around on the PS? or will those places be taken up by new UDFAs? If he's cut, sure is a waste of a pick...

Had had some flashy skills in college. If he works on his blocking he could become another threat within the offense.

What's a fullback?

I did not like this pick last year. I don't think Rogers every sees the field in a Rams uniform.

This is what I thought, I think he needed a year to see where he would "fit" he's definitely got some pass catching skills and could be used to 'mix it up' a little on O.

Typical 6th round pick
Cheap camp body and if he did something spectacular in pre-season, he could have possibly landed a spot as a ST player
You'll see a bunch more Sam Rogers types drafted this year

Absolutely.
The guy has the all-around skills to be a special teams dynamo.
He could play almost any position other than returner on special teams.
And if he's a game-day active on special teams they are going to find a way to get him the ball and see what he can do with it.
They don't just throw draft picks out there and pray.
He was drafted for a reason, (his particular skill set) and they found he wasn't quite strong enough and was making a few rookie mistakes.

That's why they kept them on the practice squad that's why they signed him to a futures and that's why they want to work with him in Camp this year.

Truthfully, I think he has a better chance of making the team than Tavon Austin or Justin Davis.
And I like Justin Davis. :D

If Rogers bulked up over the past year and improves his pass protection he could be a possibilty to make the roster. It would free up the juggs machine, giving TA a chance to use it if Rogers doesn't stick.

Lol — Rogers stays after practice & works extremely hard.

His biggest problem is going to be speed

The numbers game makes me say no. More TEs Hemingway coming back and Mundt having a chance. I expect lot's of competition on STs with all those draft picks. Rogers will have to show great improvement which I don't see happening. He is a little slow for the pros.

I was thinking about him the other day. I hope he makes it. You got to love the kid's heart but this 53 man roster makes it tough. I wish they'd expand it already at least to 55.

If he was bigger so as to be a good lead blocker, even get some time lining up as TE, or if he was faster so as to play a backup RB and a receiver out of the backfield, then yes there would be a spot for him. Unfortunately he's neither of those things, so unless he can convince Bones that he could be a big help on special teams I don't see him making the roster. But you got to love his bulldog mentality.

No. He can't separate from defenders in the pass game.

I’m saying no. We are looking at adding about 6 - 8 LBs through the draft and UDFA to make the 90 man roster. There will undoubtedly be some special teams aces in that mix and they will have more value as an LB than any FB. The fullback position is dying in this pass-first NFL so you might as well have a TE in that spot.

If this^ is accurate, and McVay's Line of thinking. Then why is he even on the Roster, let alone signed to a "Future's Contract"!?! they must have something in mind for him!

I think McVay would like to have a fullback in his offense - somebody to blast a hole in the line for goal line or less than a yard situations, somebody who can catch the ball in short yardage situations, and who can protect the QB for long passes. Problem is, most fullbacks don't have the speed that modern offenses require AND the strength needed to block against 300 pounders. So it's hard to find one who actually can help the team. We'll see if Rogers has built up the strength and skill needed after a year of working out with NFL training.

I'm not really sure a fullback is needed in this offense, I do think an H-back is something that could possibly stick if no one wins the third TE battle. The problem with that was Rogers was already a bit light for that spot, maybe he puts on weight... and some length could be nice.
