I got relocated closer to Anchorage for work, but my Kenai River Log House in Sterling is real close to the funny river wildfire. My tenants received a reverse 911 call last night to get packed with essentials and be ready for an evacuation call.
Here's a pic they posted of the Canadian Water Bombers flying right over house.
This fire started out south of Soldotna, and grew exponentially bigger over a few days with winds from North. Spread to lake Tustamena and got locked from going south. But the wind changed a couple days ago, and started this beast heading back North toward civilization.
May weather has been hotter than hell so far this year. No rain. Dry. Us locals are loving our tans, but Alaska loses something when you can't have campfire parties.
SEND GOOD VIBES for RAIN!
