I’ve wondered, since he’s older...he has lost a step, but he’s a hell of. Tackler. It worked for Charles Woodson, it worked for Aneas Williams...Just feel that when he comes back, if David Long is what everyone says he is, with Weddle and Tabib at Safety...that could change things around.

Just a thought as to how to improve.

He is out for 8 weeks same as Johnson

But I could see him going to safety next season as a back-up to both Johnson & Weddle if he is willing to take a discount on his contract.

He is not the same cornerback so I wonder how many teams would be willing to spend high dollars on him. Plus he gets hurt all the time now.

If David Long was as good as the press he is getting this week he wouldnt have been inactive so often. Let's pump the brakes on him for a minute.

It's so understandable to hear the talk. Everyone's just excited to see two press corners outside.

In that light, it may be possible to see them forgo the experience that Hill brings to test Long in full press coverage, which isn't really something that you'd expect to see every down, at least not up front, and especially with the injury to Johnson at safety.

It's also possible that they could go with Troy Hill in press coverage, it just depends on who he's covering and how fast we're getting to the quarterback, which is further complicated by the injury to Clay Matthews :)

I'm guessing we'll see more hybrid zone than anything else.

Hill has stepped in and done a nice job so far this year. No reason to play Long unless Hill really struggles and so far he hasn't. I expect him to play sanu sunday which he played great against last time those two faced off. Actually last time he shut him down.

I doubt Talib returns next season. And they won't move him to safety late in the season. Might as well stick with Weddle a couple years and look for a young safety down the road. I think Rapp is more of a strong safety, which happens to be JJ's position. Rapp is probably going to be the hybrid SS/LB that Barron was.

Talib's issues stem from the inconstancy of the whole defense. We couldn't truly run Wades D with Peters sucking so much ass at man coverage.

Playing man allows Wade to run out of his base D and this allows more consistent alignments and blitzes and assignments. I'm willing to bet Ramsey will be able to pick up the D pretty fast because he'll be mostly used as press man.

Once our pressure comes back from our front 7 Talib will become more effective with how he generally plays coverage and WR's. Problem is he hasn't adjusted from the shortcomings of our lack of pressure upfront.

p.s. Talib will not be apart of this team next year more than likely and if he is he'll be the #2 which would actually suit him well.

I believe this will be Talib's last season & will retire when the Rams season is over. AT missed half of 2018 season. Now we know that AT will miss more this season. His playing performance has been trending downward since the beginning of this season. His once stout tackling has been as bad as Marqui Christian & Peters. Neither of those DB's will be here next season & neither will be Talib.

Rams will have four young talented safeties signed next season......Rapp, JJ III, Nick Scott & Jake Gervase. Plus team Captain & veteran defensive caller & team captain Eric Weddle. Rams have the option where he can return if the Rams think he has enough in the tank. Weddle is already signed so thats FIVE safeties.

Rams secondary @ safety appears very solid & could be a strength of this defense.
