What an exciting couple of days, eh? According to some the Dodgers, Yankees and Giants made out the best. The Padres, Rockies and Cub fans made out the worst.

The Dodgers getting Scherzer and Turner have definitely improved the team. They are 3 games behind the division leading Giants, 4 in the loss column. And the Giants picked up Chris Bryant. After losing 2 of 3 to the Giants before the trade, they have a chance to win 2 of 3 over the D'Backs with a win Sunday. They just got Cory Seager back and if they can get Trevor Bauer out of his situation, their starting 5 should be extremely tough. Buhler, Arias, Kershaw, Scherzer and Bauer. Some rotation, eh?

The Giants adding Bryant is huge. He can immediately replace injured Evan Longoria. Longoria was supposed to return soon after the all star break but that hasn't happened. He might not be back until late August. And once Longoria returns, Bryant versatility will allow him to move to the outfield. Despite losing 2 of 3 to the Pirates and Cardinals, the Giants have beaten the Dodgers 11 of their last 17 meetings. And they only have to play them 3 more times the remainder of the season.

The Yankees needed left handed hitters and defensive help. They couldn't have done better than Gallo and Rizzo. Though Gallo has gone 0-fer 8 (with 2 walks) in his first two games with NY, Rizzo has gone 4 for 5 with 2 walks, 2 homers, 2 rbi and 5 runs scored. Of course they are not nearly in the same position as the Dodgers and Giants but they've already leaped over Seattle in the wild card chase and trail Oakland by just 1 game in the loss column. Most believe the division is out of reach with first place Tampa and Boston in a virtual tie on any given day but the Yankees are just 6 games behind TB and 5 behind Boston in the loss column. They play Boston 6 more times and Tampa 3. By adding those two lefties, their lineup has become much more difficult to navigate with a diversity of left and right-handers. But even more importantly, it lights a fire under guys who stand to lose playing time because of the trades. Rougned Odor, the only decent left hander before the trade, has gone 3 for 6 with 3 rbi (of the 7) the last 2 games.

The losers like San Diego, Colorado and Cub fans are obvious. San Diego was rumored to be getting Scherzer, then Berrios. Neither happened. The Rockies were supposed to get a haul for Trevor Story. That didn't happen either. I feel for Cub fans. There's nothing worse than watching the core of your team traded away. Rizzo, Bryant, Baez and Kimbrel. First it takes 108 years to win another Championship, then that team is dismantled just 5 years later.

The Mets should be considered another "winner" if it weren't for deGrom's problems.

The Dodgers clearly won it by getting Sherzer. Turner is a great addition too. But Sherzer is a game 1 type of pitcher in the playoffs.

The Yankees did well in that they very specifically addressed a need. But they were in on Berrios and didn’t get it done. I honestly think getting Rizzo was huge and unexpected. Gallo though was not necessary imo. Florian and a few other triple A guys were looking very good and the Yankees have too many low BA players on the roster. The big get would have been Trevor Story. Story and Rizzo may have gotten them ranked ahead of the Dodgers trades imo.

The Twins were asking for a ton to trade Berrios. Ditto for the Rockies and Story. In some ways teams have to be credited for what they gave up in the trades. The Yankees traded a bunch of decent prospects but none of their top guys. Most of the traded players would have been unprotected in the rule5 draft this year and lost anyway.

I just wish Hal was as free spending as his Dad. The Yankees are regrettably in too deep on two big contracts Stanton and Hicks are stifling the Yankees ability to make roster moves and neither is the player that they were when they signed the huge deals.

The division leaders since the dead line?

Boston 2-7
CWS 6-3
Houston 3-5
NY Mets 2-7
Milwaukee 5-3
San Francisco 6-3

The others?

Tampa 6-2
NY Yankees 8-1
Toronto 8-2

Cleveland 3-4
Oakland 5-2
Seattle 3-4

Philadelphia 7-2
Atlanta 5-3

Cincinnati 6-2
Dodgers 4-3
San Diego 3-4

A week doesn't make or break the deals at the trade deadline but it's a pretty good indication of the direction teams have taken since. Boston did virtually nothing but pick up Kyle Swarber (who was injured and still hasn't played). Toronto picked up Berrios. The Yankees Rizzo and Gallo. The Giants picked up Bryant. The Dodgers Scherzer and Turner. The Mets Baez. The Phillies Gibson. It sure is going to be interesting to see how it all plays out. The Red Sox and Mets have already been ousted from first place. The Dodgers and Cleveland have lost ground. Tampa, Toronto, the Yankees, Oakland and Philadelphia have made huge gains. Cincinnati has gained a game.

I think Turner is the under the radar guy that can make this trade a huge win for our men in Blue. That speed on the bases can be huge in big games.

Where is he slated to play? Second base or Shortstop? I don't follow the Dodgers.

Dang, the Yankees are 19-4 since the trade deadline. Anthony Rizzo, Joey Gallo, Andrew Heaney, Joely Rodriguez and Clay Holmes. What a difference a couple of left handed bats can do, eh? Not to mention Glyber Torres and Gio Urshela have missed almost all of those games. 6 weeks to go.....

The most interesting races are the NL West and AL East.

Dodgers and Tampa Bay both 19-6 since the trade deadline.
SF is 19-7
Boston is 11-15
Toronto is 15-13
NY is 23-4

Difficulty on their remaining schedules?

LAD: 3 v SF, 6 v SD, 3 v Milwaukee, 3 v Atlanta, 3 v Cincinnati
SF: 3 v LAD, 10 v SD, 4 v Milwaukee, 5 v Atlanta

TB: 7 v Boston, 3 v NYY, 6 v Toronto, 3 v Houston
NYY: 3 v TB, 3 v Boston, 7 v Toronto, 2 v Oakland
Boston: 7 v TB, 3 v NYY, 3 v CWS

Should be a fun finish.

Honestly, Lester and Happ have actually been pretty good, and we got them for almost nothing.

Gotta give this one to the Dodgers. Scherzer gives them a dominant ace to go along with two other ace caliber pitchers. Turner was a great addition. I think they have him for another year while Scherzer will be a free agent. They can certainly afford to re-sign him. They should if they want to keep winning in the post season.

Just to throw a curve ball.BTW Hated the strike call on Ball 4 to Bryant.

The Cardinals made an excellent run,so the trade with Colorado helped propel them against the Dodgers. The again it was Scherzer came out on top. - Rumor is the Angels want him on there staff in 2022. Whatever happens there the Dodgers are in a good position to win it all again.

Just to make this a Rams thread.I HATE the Dodgers, but Magic Johnson
is part of that Owernership group.

Magic was one of the first to get Season Tickets to SOFI.He looks better in the BOX SUITE than in a pull down seat.

Then to add if it wasn’t for Magic where would The Rams be ? Stan Kronke put in a BIG over to buy the Dodgers & stadium.

Just to add I knew then The Rams we’re coming back to LA because he bought the piece of property from his wife.I’m sure wink wink wink. I’ll stop
& just say I LOVE LA RAMS!!(Lakers) & Magic in the suite.Just a GREAT LA STORY.

Now let’s Beat NY!! Oh & the Beat LA chant is cool when the Giants are playing the Giants. Funny the Niners are in San Jose.
