Become the best run defense we tried to run against? Did it seem that the defense knew the run play before our RB got the hand off? I re-watched the Niner game, and believe it or not, we had more operating room in our run game against them than the Bengals. We’re we that predictable? Doesn’t Frisco know our run game too? Is Higbee that important to our blocking scheme?Did we not consider a jumbo package to help get Cam, Sony, and Hendo some room to run? Mixon more than doubled our whole run production….hmmmm…I know, I know, we still won the game, thanks to the heroics of Stafford and Kupp…but figuring out our run game will preserve Stafford for a few more years.

After O'Dell got hurt they doubled/tripled Cooper and were able to sell out to stop the run b/c they weren't worried of Van, Ben Skow, and Brycen Hopkins.

I read on touchdown wire McVay kept running inside to open the deep middle and the outside passes. That may have had to something to do with it.

Well, the interior OL is OK at pass blocking but not bulldozers in the run game.

The Bengals were living on the Rams side of the los, the oline was getting whipped consistently. I don’t know if it was scheme or personnel but it was definitely a problem.

Last year the Bucs were not a good run team either. That is today's NFL. It helps to be able to run but you can still win if you have a good passing team. If you can't pass its hard to win. Although I still think if OBJ doesn't go down their run defense woulda loosened up because they woulda had to account for him.

Listening to the 11 Personnel podcast, Jourdan opined that because Zac Taylor had so much familiarity with our offense they knew the run cues and were able to take advantage of that. They certainly seemed to be on top of every run we tried.

But either way, we definitely McVay to re-think the run game next season and consider bringing in some road graders for the interior OL. This season, against a lot of opponents, there were way too many run plays where our back got stuffed in the backfield. Some of that has to be design. And at some point, you need to just get back to basics and get some maulers in there that can physically overmatch most defenses and hold their own against the better ones.

Oh, and when Woods comes back next year, the jet sweep needs to be re-incorporated into the O, big time. Nobody was better at it.

When I seen the pre-snap defense on most of our run plays, I hated the look. It seemed like they had more players in the box than the Rams had to block them with every time. And then they got into our backfield. Hard to run like that.

This. My brother and I were sunk when Odell went down. Like you said, double Kupp and sell out to stop the run.

It doesn't help when you run on first down almost every damn time! Even into eight man boxes!

Plus Hopkins is a terrible blocker.

However, he did have a hell of a block on Kupps jet sweep for a first down

I stated before that maybe the Rams have a run tell. Couldn't run the ball during the playoff run. They need to fix that.

I think McVays run calls were a bit predictable. Majority of 1st downs were a run. If we ever got positive yards nearly every 2nd and short was a run.
