Von Miller just signed 6 years 114.5 million, 70 million GAURENTEED !
I have to say if I was John Elway I would of let him sit out, how is the franchise tag not enough?
That is just too much money for an OLB, I know he is a beast and won them a super bowl but come on do you really want a player like that on your team? I really hope Aaron Donald doesn't hold the rams hostage like this because this is just too much for a non QB and it makes it very hard to build a team.

What would you DO?

Would I want a Von Miller like player on this team? Hell yeah.

Aaron Donald is gonna get paid too. I don't care how much, not my concern. I just want him to stay on the Rams.

Von Miller earned the money he's getting. He's worth the price. And I don't know what you were trying to get at when you said you wouldn't want a guy like that on your team. Miller is a really good guy. He's also an employee who demands to be paid for his services. I don't have a problem with that.

This record will get broken next year by M. Wilkerson (after he plays out his tag this year). Donald and Mack contracts will be huge but they won't happen for 2 more years. Pass rushers are a must if you want to shutdown elite Qbs.

Based on his current production AD will get a larger contract (before adjusting for salary cap inflation that will happen by the time it happens). If he doesn't break $20 mil average with a huge guarantee his agent has failed. The only question is if stays healthy.
He is locked up for 2017, the Rams will clearly use the 5th year option on him in 2018, and can tag him in 2019 and 2020 (2020 will be tough though, there will be other players coming due -Gurley/Havenstein-and the jump will be big). Right now he will get $3.2m in 2017, 2018 option is around $7m, 2019 franchise (best guess) $14.5m with and 2020 (best guess again) $17.5m....realize those # are estimates since that pay is based on averages of highest paid...so as salary cap goes up and stars at certain positions sign new contracts those figures could balloon more than I am guessing. Some would say use those numbers as a ceiling for signing him longer term, I tend to think that he will look at that as the floor.

Odds are as a Rams fan you can expect him to be here through 2019 at least.

How is the franchise tender not enough to make you play for a season? just threatening to sit out a season because your not getting your way is ridiculous to me. This will not allow the Broncos to go after other player because 70 million guaranteed by 2018 is going to hurt their team. I agree he's a great player but just very selfish move by him.

If your employer told you you HAD to work for him and you HAD to accept a certain payment for your service you'd be pissed too. Long term deals are more than just a money thing for players, it's risk management. What if Von did play on the franchise tag next year and suffers a career ending injury? That's tens of millions of dollars down the drain. Miller made the smart move.

Do not agree. Watts and F. Cox goes against your mont. If you look at the deal Watts got as a % of the salary cap it was huge and it allowed Suh to get paid. Cox's deal was just as huge and allowed Miller to get his.

Donald whenever he signs will get as much if he continues on his current pace. No reason for him to sign in year or two unless he gets close to or more than Miller's money. Only advantage for the Rams is they can lock him up for more of his prime years. But that will force the Rams to pay $$$$$.

We disagree. Players play on the 5th year option all the time.

You do not account for the bump in salary cap nor what players have gotten in the free market after being optioned or franchised. Everyone of the pre option or franchised deals, the player took a "haircut". Likely hood of the deals are dropping fast.

We will revisit this in a year or two to see who is more correct.

we're not talking about players, we're talking about THE player. the best in the nfl. you think he's gonna be happy with a $1.8m salary next season? $3.2m if you add in the bonus he received when he signed with the rams. the 5th year option for star lotulelei, the 14th pick in the 13 draft, is $6.7m.

that means the next 2 seasons after the current one donald is looking at $8.5m total. that ain't gonna fly for the best player in the league at his position. you don't think he will give a little discount to get paid the next offseason?

Nope.

Because he can make 3x as much as that in the first two years of a free agent deal. Injuries are always a concern... thing is the really, really great DL do not get hurt that often. I also with the elimination of the of all chop blocks their longevity just went up.

You are incorrect.

T Austin, Brokers, Olgartree and TJMc will be on the bubble before those two. Like the next year.

Will be interesting times and they currently do not have the draft picks to back stop negative decisions.
