but for whatever reason, never did?

For me that would be Sam Bradford. Am I right, @-X- ? We sucked so bad to earn that number one draft pick and needed a young stud so badly. We had hope after he dinked and dunked his way to the OROY. But that was the best he'd ever be... :bigcry:

Who is your biggest draft hope, destroyed by reality?

Greg Robinson or Jason Smith for me… both were reached but having an LT after Pace would have been nice for 2006-2018

I thought Alec Ogletree was set to break out after a really solid 2016 being 25yrs old that season. He had 136 tackles and two INT’s that year.

But he plateaued.

@Loyal Just hurt me ... Seriously.

I know it was not his intention but I'm kind of sad right now ... Seriously.

My 1st thought was ... Great Thread! ... I love Rams' history. Figure most responders would think about players from the past decade or so (really agree with @CGI_Ram about Ogletree). I thought to go back a little further; and immediately thought of Damione Lewis.

So I pulled-up the Rams' all-time draft choices to see if I was missing someone I'd like to mention.

DON"T DO THAT! SERIOUSLY!!! Don't repeat the mistake I just made.

All the disappointing selections. SO MANY players drafted by the Rams between #30-#100 overall, who turned-out to be no more than average to below-average NFL players. It's disappointing to see how few draft choices actually work-out.

With the Draft just a few days away, this is a time for optimism. Embrace it. Don't look back. Seriously.

All of them! But I'll go with Brian Quick. I liked the idea of a small school WR coming into the Rams and blowing things up. I was just a few years too early and the wrong coast for a small school WR to blow things up.

Donny Avery.

I thought he’d have the kind of success that DeSean Jackson (selected 16 picks later) ended up having.

So many to choose from!!! Jason Smith and Greg Robinson immediately come to mind but I knew very little about them coming in. For me it was Brian Leonard. Great blocker, terrific receiver and speed (4.9 in the 40). I saw a lot of him at Rutgers. He was asked to block more for Ray Rice than run the ball himself but he made the most of his chances there. I envisioned a great tandem of SJ and Leonard but it just never worked out. The shoulder surgeries didn't help.

GRob probably hurt the most in recent history. And that was sort of a consensus too...A LOT of pundits had us drafting him.

But personally, it was Tavon. I watched his college highlights reel probably a hundred times. I was at the record breaking Colts game.

Then Gurleys rookie year happened and I thought "Tavon had arrived"....

I agree with most of y'all that there are so many to pick from. I thought Tye Hill would be a good cover corner so him.not working out sucked on that end. I know we didn't technically draft him but picked him up after the draft as a UDFA, but the one that hurt to me because he showed so much talent but had shit for knees was Danario Alexander. Man that dude showed some special talent when healthy.

Elvis Peacock Oklahoma....Going with a little history here, he looked stellar, unfortunately kept getting hurt and would have been a huge difference in 1979 in the Super Bowl against the Steelers. Peacock & Tyler would have been a 1-2 punch that would have melted the Steel Curtain.

I definitely hoped Sam would be the guy. He had all the tools. Sadly, his development was destroyed due to crappy coaching.

Barrett Jones and Mardy Gilyard. It was after those years the seeds of me not giving a shit about the draft were planted.

Joe Klopfenstein. The year was 2006, and I went to a Rams hosted draft party (where I met Pisa Tinoisamoa, Jimmy Kennedy, and Kevin Curtis; all of them were cool dudes to me.) I wanted Haloti Ngata and Elvis Dumervil as well; I knew that they were going to be studs. Imagine my utmost disappointment when they traded down for Tye Hill (whom, even back then, I knew was going to suck). But Klopfenstein was rated as the best senior tight end going into this class. I wanted him to work out. I liked the pick. Too bad it didn't work out.

Lawrence Phillips is a very sad story, a guy that seemed to be capable of being exceptional in terms of NFL production and not for being
a complete disappointment.
Mike Schad can be put in there with Robinson & Smith as OL misses
