WEEK 17 injury report LINK

WEEK 17 Weather Report LINK

Happy new year everyone! We are now into Week 17 and after 16 weeks of fairly calm and warm weather on average, we have a cold front that will affect a big swath of the country and the NFL games that lie therein.

In the Week 17 weather report, we’ll go through the games that look to have the strongest projected wind gusts, possible precipitation and more. We’ll also give you the games where we shouldn’t need to worry about weather, i.e., the games you can choose from in DFS without getting an ulcer. Helpful weather resources include National Weather Service and Dark Sky, among others.

Worst weather games

Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers
Lambeau Field is heated, so the 5 degree temperature shouldn’t be that problematic for footing, but it will be darn cold. The good news is that the wind should stay under 10 mph and there is no precipitation in the forecast.

Atlanta Falcons at Buffalo Bills
Temperatures are going to be right around freezing, with 30-40 percent chance of precipitation and wind 10-15 mph. This is right on the edge of a bad weather game, but the forecast will change a bit between now and then, so this is very much a game to watch out for.

Miami Dolphins at Tennessee Titans
Wind, cold and rain are the possible troubles in Tennessee, as there is a 30-40% chance of precipitation, winds around 15 mph and temperatures right above freezing. Another one to keep an eye on.

Detroit Lions at Seattle Seahawks
We saw the snow last week in Seattle and now we’ll get rain, as there is currently a 9-% chance of precipitation. Add in temperatures in the low 40s and wind closing in on 15 mph and it will be uncomfortable in the Emerald City.

Better weather games

New York Giants at Chicago Bears
It’s going to be cold, with temperatures in the low 20s, but there is no precipitation in the forecast right now. Winds are 10-15 mph, which is going to make things super chilly. but for the most part okay for football.

Jacksonville Jaguars at New England Patriots
Rain chances are up around 60%, but wind will be light and temperatures in the mid 40s. If this turns into an all game downpour, offenses could be in trouble, but right now I’m not super worried.

Kansas City Chiefs at Cincinnati Bengals
Temperatures are going to be right around freezing with a 20% chance of rain. Wind chills should be below freezing, as winds will be around 12 mph. Not perfect, but not horrible

Los Angeles Rams at Baltimore Ravens
There is a 40% chance of rain, with temperatures in the high 50s and wind around 13 mph. If the rain and wind predictions increase, things could get ugly.

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Football Team
There is a 40% chance of rain, with winds around 12 mph, but temperatures will be mild, with highs in the mid 60s.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New York Jets
Rain looks likely at 50 percent, but win will be under 10 mph and temperatures in the mid-50s.

Denver Broncos at Los Angeles Chargers
Low 60s, 5 mph wind and sunny skies make this the best weather game of the weekend.

Houston Texans at San Francisco 49ers
A 20-30% chance of rain with temperatures in the mid-40s will make things a little chilly, but wind should be light, making this game fine for football.

Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers
Clear skies, light wind and temperatures below freezing around 27 degrees will make this a crisp, but good venue for football.

Home sweet dome

Las Vegas Raiders at Indianapolis Colts
Arizona Cardinals at Dallas Cowboys
Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints

NFL COVID-19 tracker

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues to plague the NFL. As of Monday night, 521 players had been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list in December alone, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. That's nearly one in four active players.

Even worse is that 476 of those have come since Dec. 13. (For context, 428 players went on COVID reserve all of last season, Sept. 1 to Super Bowl LV). Many high-profile players have missed games this season after testing positive for the virus, and more players will undoubtedly miss time during the final two weeks of the 2021 regular season.

A record 106 players were placed on the COVID list Monday, with several teams getting hit hard. The Jaguars added the most players (10), the Raiders lost all three starting linebackers, and the Chargers went down four defensive backs and already ruled out three starters for Week 17 versus the Broncos. Other big names added to the list include the Buccaneers' Mike Evans, the Titans' Julio Jones and Bud Dupree, the Panthers' Brian Burns and Shaq Thompson, and the Patriots' Matt Judon.

However, none of those moves were as significant as the Colts placing quarterback Carson Wentz on COVID reserve Tuesday, putting his status in doubt for Indy's showdown with the Raiders on Sunday. The other big news from Tuesday is that Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians tested positive for COVID-19 and has been isolating at home, per the team. Assistant head coach Harold Goodwin is taking over head coaching duties in his absence.

The biggest news Wednesday was the Raiders placing Darren Waller on COVID reserve. Waller has missed the past four games with a hip injury, but there was optimism he would return to practice in some capacity this week. Now, he's in COVID protocols, meaning Las Vegas could be without him again for its crucial AFC showdown with the Colts on Sunday.

On Friday, the Vikings announced that quarterback Kirk Cousins is in COVID protocols and will miss the pivotal "Sunday Night Football" matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Washington also placed running back Antonio Gibson on the reserve/COVID-19 list. And the Broncos placed wide receiver Jerry Jeudy and pass-rusher Bradley Chubb on their growing list.

There was a lot of encouraging news on the COVID-19 front Saturday, as a bunch of impact players were activated. Among those who cleared protocols: Panthers DE Brian Burns and LB Shaq Thompson; Colts QB Carson Wentz; Raiders LBs Cory Littleton and Denzel Perryman; Chargers CB Chris Harris, S Nasir Adderley and K Dustin Hopkins; Patriots LB Matt Judon; Eagles DE Derek Barnett; Buccaneers CBs Jamel Dean and Sean Murphy-Bunting; and Titans OLB Bud Dupree. A total of 55 players were activated from COVID reserve Saturday, according to ESPN's Field Yates.

(Note: On Tuesday, the NFL adopted new COVID protocols that reduce the mandated quarantine for positive players from 10 to five days, with no "test out" required if players are asymptomatic. This applies to both vaccinated and unvaccinated players.)

Here's an updated look at each team's current COVID-19 situation as we head into Week 17, specifically which players are on COVID reserve:
