Naturally. Teams run the ball more when they're ahead and pass more when they're behind.

It's a nice number but it doesn't directly correlate the number of times Gurley totes the rock to winning. If for some reason we decided to repeatedly hand off to Gurley and run down the clock when we were playing from behind then we'd deserve to lose that game haha.

Stats can be deceiving.
yeah when you are way ahead (which the rams have been often the last two years) there are a lot more rushing attempts... I bet if you broke it down by margin of victory it would be even more so.

Gurley is usually sat by the end of the 3rd or entering the 4th if we are way ahead. I don't think that rushing Gurley at least 17 times is the key to winning though.

I’m guessing that they’ve lost at least 1 game when he carried 16 times

I remember this debate from last year. I don't think there is a definitive answer to how many carriers TG should get? McVay admits he gets pass happy. The defense getting off the field will really help the Rams offense. They can't let teams control the ball and the time of possession.

Or maybe he never ran 16 times.
Nah, then the stat would be, with more than 15 carries....

They are 2-2 when he carried 16 times btw...
0-2 with 15 carries.
Just think, that's 4 losses that could have been easily prevented by Gurley just running 1 or 2 more times...

I would not run him to death...the season starts in Jan... I would like see Brown and eventually Kelly mixed in so Gurley is not carrying the load.

Sure big games that impact seeding, like Vikes, Saints & Eagles, you give it to him, but try to keep him fresh for the stretch drive and playoffs.

Contrarian view: We have to rest our back ups, or else Gurley won't reach 2500 yards this year, ya bastids...

Great point, when they're up and someone else hauls the rock.

But, you could accurately meme that when your offensive line is having such an effective day against the opposing team's defensive line that McVay feels compelled to rush the ball 17 times or more your chances to win are close to 100% :)

Small sample size. But yes, give the man the rock. Definitely could have used more carries in the first half of the Oakland game but McVay isn't stupid and he has a plan. Those jet-sweeps negated 3 Gurley carries, but it made a statement to the league that we can beat you any damn well way we please. Go Rams!

I personally think we are best when we setup the run with the pass. We often start slow because we run too much.

Iviet’s best to take what the defense gives but i like to get guys out of the box especially with the pass blocking oline we have, the precise route runners we have in Cooks, Kupp and Woods and Jared’s short to mid range accuracy.

Once the defense respects the pass Gurley can feast on the run, then play action becomes deadly too.

no thanks. save him for playoffs and future years. rather see him in the 15-20 touch range per game than 20+ tbh, even if it means a loss or 2 cuz in the end I think itll benefit todd and the team

I’m sorry but the thing that stands out most about last years regular season was the Vikes and Eagles loss where Gurley was running effective but McVay kept passing it or running trying to be cute instead of running it down their throat like we were having success doing.
Hope he doesn’t do that in important games this year.

Ofc not to wear out Gurley. But it seems Mc Vay has that in hand well in preserving players.

I'd like to see a few more screens coming his way. Rams best passing play last year, and Gurley at his most effective.

Regardless of the benchmark of how many touches he should get, Rams are the best team in football when he's involved and having a big day. In the 13 games the Rams have won under McVay, Gurley averages 149 yards per scrimmage/game, and scored 18 TDs.
