As the hunt for Tom Brady’s Super Bowl LI jersey continues, the authorities have attached an official value to the item: $500,000.

That’s the number appearing on the police report posted on Twitter by James Palmer of NFL Media. And that matters for reasons beyond media coverage or hype; the value makes the crime a first degree felony under Texas law.

The number meshes with an estimate provided by Ken Goldin of Goldin Associates. As a practical matter, the item has limited value because anyone who buys it can’t display it without risk of the authorities seizing it.

The item remains missing, and the bigger issue could be that folks with access to NFL locker rooms have had sticky fingers for years when it comes to game-used memorabilia.

Regardless of whether Brady’s jersey is found, the NFL needs to beef up its efforts to secure property that, as Brady’s jersey demonstrates, can be extremely valuable.

I would start the search at the New England cameraman's home...

If that was clear... move on to the Belicheat residence. He had a fine in that neighborhood to pay in the past,,, so......

And in the very unlikely event that the jersey wasn't found in either of those... That skank who is banging Kraft has it.

Mystery solved.

Hopefully it was an Atlanta fan who set fire to it.

Same cat burglar who apparently stole Shanahans playbook...$500,000 how is that even valued. If stolen it has no letter of authentication therefore worthless...It will wind up in the Goodwill...

I hope a Texans fan cut it up and is using it to wipe his ass.

If I got ahold of it, I'd cut it up to make tampons and then pass em out to the hookers on Santa Monica blvd.

It's probably in the equipment manager's basement wrapped around 2 game-used deflated footballs...Just a guess...

The going theory is that Julian Edelman stole it to sew into a body pillow. You can hear him at night mumbling, "Yeah, let's go deep Tom" in his sleep.

Tom Brady shares 'suspect board' in the case of his missing jersey

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. —

Tom Brady is taking off his football helmet and donning his detective hat, getting involved in the case of the missing Super Bowl jersey.

He's even assigned it a case number: 12 -- of course.

Brady, the MVP of the first comeback victory in Super Bowl history, said he left the jersey in a bag in his locker and changed into a champions t-shirt for the post-game ceremony. When he returned, the jersey was missing.

The suspects on Brady's tongue-in-cheek suspect board include his teammate Julian Edelman, halftime show performer Lady Gaga, South Park's Crab People, and the creepy courtroom drawing of himself from the Deflategate hearing.
