Report: Bears hiring Vic Fangio

The Bears have reportedly found their defensive coordinator.

Former 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio will become a member of Chicago’s coaching staff, Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reported on Tuesday morning.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, Fangio will be the Bears’ defensive coordinator.

The 56-year-old Fangio led the 49ers’ defense the last four seasons. He also was defensive coordinator for the Texans (2002-2005), Colts (1999-2001) and Panthers (1995-1998).

The 49ers finished in the top eight in fewest yards per play allowed in each of Fangio’s four seasons as coordinator.

The Bears’ defense has struggled in each of the last two seasons. Chicago was 29th in yards per play surrendered and 30th in yards per game allowed in 2014.

Will be interesting to see what they do. Bears have never run a 3-4 as a base defense. The only team in NFL history to never do it. They have shown it as a gimmick in the past, 1978 for example . .. since the implementation of the 4-3 in the mid-1950s, Bears have always been a 4-3 defense.

And John Fox is a 4-3 guy and is a defensive coach and Fangio has always coached a 3-4 defense, but the 49ers take anther hit so all things are good.
