What a night!

St Preaux had a KO of the year candidate with a kick to the neck.

Joanna Jedrzeczyk got knocked the freak out by Rose Namajunas, a SUBMISSION specialist in the 3rd minute of the First Round in dominating fashion!

And George’s St Pierre sunk one of the NASTIEST rear naked chokes on Bisping I’ve ever seen.

What a night!!!

I really hate GSP, so it's sad to hear that he won. I want about to watch the fights, but I heard they were great.

Here's my take,
#1 What is Johnny Hendricks still doing in UFC, and on the main card?
#2 Great under card, Mickey Gall got his azz kicked, disgusting illegal head kick by Harris
#3 Steven Thompson was a tactician, a real sniper. But his fights are a little boring
#4 Rose was impressive although I'm not down with her choosing to talk politics after the fight
#5 Hate Dillashaw, beech was knocked out end of 1st, got saved by the bell. Garbrandt eating a lot of crow right now, he deserves a rematch
#6 Hate GSP, hate that he steps in to a title fight. Love that Bisping wouldnt tap

That’s not as beast as you may think.

I know I’ve been in the middle of fighting off a choke and sleep was on me like a cheetah on a gazelle. If I weren’t so paranoid about going unconscious (because then I’d seize) I would have napped out and several times barely got the tap in.

It’s pretty easy to think, “this is deep but I can fight thi...”

That said, I always underestimated Bisping and he really showed me.

I also understand liking or not liking fighters, but I focus more on skills and execution. I’ve changed my preferences in fighters several times, most notably the Diaz brothers

I don't know @Mackeyser we did BJJ in the Army and, just my experience so it's really not very inclusive, I've never seen anyone pass out from a choke or experienced one that felt like it was setting in fast. If anything, I'd say people have a lot more time than they think.

The Army teaches that it takes 3-5 seconds for a good blood choke to put someone to sleep, but i haven't seen that to be true. I've even gone so far as to, as a demonstration, let people get the best choke in that they can and lasted past 5 seconds before I was really concerned.

We weren't professionals of course, but lots of the instructors are a part of BJJ gyms, do the army competitions, or fought amateur/semi pro (paid but not well) before joining.

Depends on the person's physiology really. The vascular structure entering the brain really determines how long a person has. Especially the structure of the carotid arteries.

I've personally seen a person get put to sleep in just over 1 second. Was so fast the guy rolling with him didn't even have a chance to ease up.

Lots of factors involved including blood pressure at the time of the choke, where the pressure is truly being applied (I've personally been in chokes where I had to tap because of the pressure on my trachea and if I had been able to deal with that, I coulda lasted for a long time), and of course the structure of the neck. The blood pressure is actually a key component. 3-5 seconds for a person standing or sitting sounds about right, but much less if a person has their blood pumping. Couple that with oxygen depletion because a person is gassing in the 4th minute of a 5 minute round and yeah, guys can sleep real quick.

Also, for some people, getting choked is a gradual loss of consciousness. For others, it's as sudden as a light switch.

That was really my only point. Depends on the person.

Sometimes its, "nap out before tap out". Others, it was never really a choice. They were out before they knew it.

That's fair. I should have anticipated that physiology and oxygen deprivation would play a role in long matches as opposed to training environments (less strenuous).

If I saw somebody pass out in just over a second I'd never let that dude live it down.

Do you train BJJ or something similar? I was doing judo with a friend of mine (actually one of my soldiers, but that's why I wasn't a very good army leader). I really liked judo the way he did it. We'd practice throws, then the ground game after. It was fun, but I just can't take that kind of abuse from slamming into the mat 60 - 70 times in a day.
