• Taylor's agent is under the impression the Bills will not address the contract before the 2016 season, leading to a sense of frustration.
  
  "It's the Bills' prerogative to do what they want to do as it relates to Tyrod Taylor or any other Billsplayer," agent Adisa Bakari said, via Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News. "Fortunately, there are 31 other teams that have watched and will be watching Tyrod. And the fact of the matter is what Tyrod was able to do as a first-time starter in 2015 was give the Bills the best quarterback play they've had since Jim Kelly.
  
  "If that isn't enough to warrant an extension, I don't know what will be."
  
  Bakari raises good points. Taylor not only beat outEJ Manuel and Matt Cassel to earn the starting job coming out of training camp, but also went on to lead a surprisingly explosive offense, ultimately landing in Honolulu for his first Pro Bowlappearance. He has the staunch support of teammates and has professed his love for Buffaloand the Bills organization.
  
  It's evident, however, that the team's brass harbors doubts about Taylor's merits as a true franchise quarterback.
  
  They have placed a higher priority this offseason on an extension for cornerback Stephon Gilmore. Whaley has acknowledged on more than one occasion that quarterback remains a possibility in the early rounds of next month's draft. He also noted late in the season that Taylor must improve to the point where he can put the team on his back late in games.
  
  Going back to mid-October, one Bills source told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that Manuel had a chance to push for the starting job during Taylor's absence due to a sprained MCL. As a smaller quarterback with a high sack rate and a penchant for running, Taylor's durability will always be a question mark.
  
  The Bills' front office is backed into a corner absent a second-tier quarterback market in the NFL. Has Taylor proven worthy of a contract worth $17 or $18 million annually, transitioning from a competitive advantage to a competitive disadvantage against the salary cap?
  
  If Taylor repeats his breakout season and exceeds expectations in 2016, the Bills know they can wield the franchise tag to keep the other 31 teams at bay. If he regresses this year, Whaley can rest comfortably with his decision not to throw mountains of guaranteed money at a one-year wonder.

Greg Roman is very, very good at tailoring offenses to mobile QBs, look no further than Kaepernick's performance before and after Roman left the whiners. If Taylor gets too full of himself I guarantee the Bills will get another QB who will also look good in that offense. And Taylor will go somewhere else and end up being a backup if he's lucky.

The dude should STFU and play as well as he can, and be a team guy. IMO at least.

The Bills had three coaches at Christian Hackenberg's Pro day. They had the biggest presence there and seemed very pleased by all accounts. Could he be their first or second round pick? It wouldn't be a bad thing for Hackenberg to have Greg Roman as his OC.

All it takes is one team to worry that he won't be there when they pick in round 2. I didn't think it was possible, until I saw how interested the Bills are. I wouldn't do it. The Rams are showing interest in Cook and I wouldn't do that either. I don't see much difference between he and Hackenberg, both have their worst. The biggest difference is that Cook had a good OLine. He isn't good under pressure either. Some think he is similar to McCarron. I hope they don't waste a first on him. In fact if that is their guy then just stick to what they already have.

Yeah, the Bills worry me man. They're one of those teams along with the obvious ones like Denver and NYJ who will ensure nobody can sit back and count on "that guy" they love falling to a certain spot.

That said, I remain completely baffled by the rumored love of Hackenberg. The guy is a mess. I even saw someone talking him up on TV, about how he bounced back in that offense this year and was like "WTF!??" Can't see him going before round 3, but as you say all it takes is one team. Madness.

This kind of crazy contract madness for junk QB's is what Rams management is faced with.

Yes, I think Taylor is better than Keenum.

I also wouldn't mind paying him $16 million if it was structured with a bunch of incentives like Dalton and Kaepernick.

But that the reality is paying a quality starting QB close to $20 million per year just emphasizes that we need to draft a QB. A first round QB can be had on the cheap for 4 years, with a 5th year option still being somewhat reasonable.

And I will add that being able to play sooner factors in at an IMMENSE level monetarily for that reason. If you draft a guy who is ready to play, then you are maximizing the window vice getting a guy who is going to sit on your depth chart for 2 years. It also puts an added emphasis on quality of your offensive staff and their ability to develop.

I think Ron Wolf had it right... Draft a QB every year regardless, and trade away the surplus guys because there's always gonna be a market for them.

Taylor is not that good, he has tons of weapons on the bill and they make him look better than he really is. The dude is a great back up and could be a winning starter on the right team, but just shut up and play ! you don't need a big contract because you have not earned it.

Taylor played very well last season. Sure maybe the system is tailored to bring out his best but why is that a knock? He was given a game plan each week and went out and executed very well. Probably not enough to give him 17 mil a year but paying him 2 mil is highway robbery. Especially when compared to some other QB's around the league like Foles.

Because defensive coordinators have had a year to pick Taylor apart. Once defensive coordinators got hold of Kaepernick's tape his YPA went down from 8.3 to 7.7 to 7.0 to last years dismal 6.6. There is a reason they're called "One Year Wonders" .

I'll bet Buffalo looked at what San Francisco did with Kaepernick's contract and what We did with Nick Foles's contract extension and said,

" Whoa horsey! Whoa!!! When I say Whoa, I mean Whoa!" Give Taylor another year to prove he's more then a "One Year Wonder."

The NFL will continue to see shooting stars streak across the football field, and defensive coordinators will adapt year after year to shut them down.

Oh, one last thing. Small running quarterbacks scare me. They have a short radioactive half-life.
