Our friends over at the fantasy side of the Scout Network published their All-25 and Under NFL team on Thursday. Two St. Louis Rams standouts made the list while another just missed the cut.
The NFL All-25 and Under Team is highlighted by some of the players you might expect like Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell and New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
The two Rams that made the cut aren’t big surprises.
Defensive end Robert Quinn, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, was one of three defensive linemen selected.
“I loved Quinn when he was drafted in 2011 and he has not disappointed,” Mark Morales-Smith wrote. “He has had double-digit sacks each of the least three seasons including 19 sacks and seven forced fumbles in 2013. While he took a step back last season, he still recorded 10.5 sacks and five forced fumbles. Quinn is the top young defensive lineman in the game.”
The other two defensive linemen selected were defensive end Chandler Jones of the New England Patriots and defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson of the New York Jets.
Morales-Smith noted that he also considered Aaron Donald of the Rams and Sheldon Richardson of the New York Jets for the spot that went to Wilkerson, but Wilkerson got the slight edge based on his four years of productivity.
Donald was the NFL’s defensive rookie of the year last season, but doesn’t have the service time or resume of NFL production like Wilkerson or Richardson, who took home defensive rookie of the year honors in 2013.
The final member of the All-25 and Under team was Rams’ punter Johnny Hekker, who was a Pro Bowl selection following the 2013 campaign.
“Hekker is actually an elite punter and signed the most lucrative punter contract of all-time,” Morales-Smith wrote. “In 2013 he was first-team All-Pro and made the second-team in 2014. He broke the single season record for net punt yards (44.2) in 2013. Also on his resume he has, two completions and a TD pass on fake punts in one game. He’s made a TD saving tackle against Patrick Peterson and last year he threw the game clinching pass to beat the defending champion Seattle Seahawks.”
