Of all the running backs that have ever worn a Rams jersey, Steven Jackson holds the team rushing record.

Steven Jackson was more than a warrior. And on October 24, 2010, he assumed the mantle atop the Rams' franchise rushing yard record list.

The Rams have had a long line of stellar running backs from Lawrence McCutcheon to Eric Dickerson to Marshall Faulk and even including the poorly mismanaged Jerome Bettis. Dickerson had held the franchise running yards record thanks to five Hall of Fame-caliber seasons.

His rookie year was his only season with the St. Louis Rams in which he didn't gain at least 1,000 yards as he split duties with an aging Faulk.

But Steven Jackson's yeoman work with little to nothing supporting him offensively as the Greatest Show on Turf moved from the field to the history annals requires hyperbole to describe.

He ran behind offensive lines that did little for him. He played with quarterbacks like Chris Chandler and Jamie Martin and Gus Frerotte and Brock Berlin and Kyle Boller and Keith Null and A.J. Feeley and Kellen Clemens.

He was never among his caliber, and that never stopped him.

Steven Jackson was more than the franchise rushing record. For damn near a decade, he was the franchise.
