(On the lack of warmer weather)
“Well, it’s coming. Really it’s ideal from an acclamation standpoint and then getting used to everything. We’ll have some weather ahead of us and that’s good. It contributes to the condition level. It’s always good to put them in a position to where they’ve got to focus and concentrate in the second part of practice when the temperature is up there. I’m sure it’s around the corner.”
(On the size of the crowd)
“I’ve been told it’s one of the biggest in years, which is great. I mean it’s a great combination because we got a Saturday evening. We got great weather and our baseball team is on the road. So, it’s a great opportunity for people to come out and see us.”
(On if the large crowd signifies excitement about the team)
“Yeah, that’s what we’ve been hearing and it’s great. They were here early and we’re encouraging them to come back. They got to see some big plays today, a couple plays down the field which we’re good.”
(On expectations for DT Michael Brockers)
“Mike did a great job coming back off the high ankle (sprain) and really finished up strong toward the second half of the season. He’s worked very hard. He’s changed his body and we think he can be a dominating player in the front.”
(On Brockers coming into camp slightly heavier than last year)
“Yeah, but he’s changed his body. He’s gained some weight, but it’s good weight.
(On Brockers wanting to become a better run defender)
“He’s gained a tremendous amount of strength. (Defensive Line) Coach (Mike) Waufle, like the rest of them, is doing a good job with his hands and his understanding.”
(On Brockers’ high ankle sprain last season)
“Brock was fine. He had some early off-season surgery – just a routine clean-up in the ankle – and came off it and really stayed here the entire offseason.”
(On TE Cory Harkey getting more repetitions due to TE Lance Kendricks’ injury)
“Cory is a smart, instinctive football player. He helped us towards the end of the year with special teams and got to play a little bit and, yeah, it’s an opportunity. Any time somebody has to step aside, for whatever reason, someone else gets to pick up on those reps and he’s taken advantage of it.”
(On what he liked about Harkey when they signed him as a college free agent last year)
“His on-the-line blocking – he’s a very good blocker for a college tight end. He seemed to understand concepts offensively, so we felt he could be the right guy to come into camp last year.”
