It has been a recurring theme with the defensive positions. We have had a TON of great defensive backs in Rams history. Today we look at the Cornerbacks, specifically. We will finish our players lists looking at safeties.

In listing Cornerbacks I broke my policy of dropping guys down the list for brief stints with the Rams, when a big chunk of their success has been with other teams. (Bettis, Kevin Greene, etc)...well, I made one exception. Our first entry on the list.
Confession: :rant:I DIDN'T WANT NIGHT TRAIN LANE TO COME AFTER ME FROM THE GRAVE, IF I LISTED HIM AT #12! :shocked:OK. I said it. I know it doesn't make sense. But, whatever. He was just too tough to not go #1.

I did add some elements on this list. I created a top 20, and I added stats.:yess: Interceptions/touchdowns will be listed next to the players names. As usual, I will also have the players years listed, and Pro Bowls listed in parenthesis. Let's go!

The Top 20 Rams All Time CORNERBACKS, Interceptions/TDs Years Played (Pro Bowls)
  1. Dick "Night Train" Lane 17/2 '52-53 14 picks his rookie year. Why didn't we keep him?
  2. Eddie Meador 45/5 '59-70 (6) 45 career picks and six Pro Bowls.
  3. Leroy Irvin 34/5 '80-89 (2) True shutdown corner with a nose for the endzone.
  4. Jerry Gray 22/3 '85-91 (4) First Round pick played like one.
  5. Todd Lyght 31/3 '91-00 (1) Hung in there and got a ring!
  6. Rod Perry 28/4 '75-82 (2) Not tall but effective
  7. Pat Thomas 26/1 '76-82 (2) He and Perry were a great team...except against Stallworth:wtf:
  8. Aeneas Williams 9/3 '01-04 (2) Spent two years at safety at the end.
  9. Clancy Williams 28/2 '65-72
  10. Monte Jackson 17/3 '75-77, '83 (2)
  11. Trumaine Johnson 15/2 '12-15 Impressive numbers in first 4 years. Should be Pro Bowler.
  12. Janoris Jenkins 10/5 '12-15 Has taken half his picks to the house!
  13. Dre' Bly 12/3 '99-02 His dropped pick in SB almost came back to haunt us.
  14. Dexter McCleon 20/0 '97-02 Solid productive player for GSOT
  15. Woodley Lewis 23/1 '50-55
  16. Daryl Henley 12/0 '89-94
  17. Ryan McNeil. 10/2 '97-98 Had a crazy year 9 picks, 1 TD in '97!
  18. Gary Green 9/1 '84-85 (1)
  19. Jeremetrius Butler 9/0 '01-06
  20. Ron Bartell 8/1 '05-11
Honorable Mention: EJ Gaines, Anthony Parker, Lamarcus Joiner, Travis Fisher, Ivory Sully.

Other Notable Cornerback Free Agents that Actually Spent Time With The Rams:
  • Irv Cross
  • Herman Edwards
  • Kermit Alexander
  • Jason Sehorn
  • Al Harris
Biggest Early Round Disappointments:
  • Tye Hill
  • Justin King
  • Jonathon Wade
  • Latin Berry

There we have it! Next, and FINAL player position: SAFETIES

I began as a Henley & Gray fan in grade school. Such a wasted and talented cb Henley. Dam drug lord  he was a captain on the team i think also. Jackass!
When I was a senior in high school I donned the #25 after Gray my favourite CB. Your bust list is spot on too!

Let's hold off on EJ Gaines. He's played one season.

I hear you Legatron. He may never be the same as his rookie year after that injury.

But Gaines sure is talented. One of those guys from the '50s probably deserves honorable mention before Gaines. But I had to mention EJ after that year he had. :yess:

What blows my mind is Night Train was born in the 1920s, and some of you may have watched him play.

It's like watching Wizard of Oz and realizing the actors were born in the late 1800s.

I voted the same. There wasn't a more fearful NFL DB than the Night Train and his head-hunting clothesline tackles. Aeneas was voted one of the two starting alltime All NFL CB's along with Neon Deion Prime-time Sanders. Jerry Gray was at least at one point considered the best NFL CB by some critics.
