Rams running back Todd Gurley was the NFC’s offensive player of the month for September and his first October outing showed no sign that he’ll be slowing down.

Gurley ran the ball 23 times for 121 yards and caught seven passes for 94 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown, in the Rams’ 35-30 victory over the Cowboys. He has been named the NFC’s offensive player of the week in recognition of those efforts.

Gurley’s touchdown was his seventh on the year, which is the most in the league through the first four weeks, and he ranks second in the league in rushing behind Kareem Hunt of the Chiefs. Gurley is also one of three players in NFL history with at least 575 yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns in the first four games of a season.

Those numbers mark a major rebound from his poor 2016 season and a big reason why the Rams have opened the year with three wins in their first four games.

You don’t have to look much further than the Rams’ win over the Cowboys on Sunday to get a picture of Gurley’s impact on the Los Angeles offense this year. The third-year running back ran the ball 23 times for 121 yards against Dallas and added seven catches for 94 yards and a score, accounting for 215 of the team’s 412 yards of offense in the 35-30 upset win.

If it weren’t for Hunt stealing some of the spotlight, we’d be in awe of the season Gurley has put together so far. The former Georgia star has been the foundation of the team’s run game, with 86 totes (second in the league) for 362 yards (second) and four touchdowns (tied for second), improving his yards per carry from 3.2 last year to 4.2 this season.

But it’s his impact in the passing attack that’s been felt the most. Gurley’s been Jared Goff’s safety net, and has caught 20 passes (tied for 20th amongst all pass catchers) for 234 yards (23rd) and three touchdowns (tied for fourth).

Gurley came into the season with exactly zero receiving touchdowns in his career, but he’s scored one through the air in three straight games. His seven total touchdowns this year lead all players, and his 596 scrimmage yards is second to only Hunt.

What head coach Sean McVay’s done with Goff has been nothing short of miraculous, but much of the credit should go to Gurley (and his revamped offensive line), too. Without his power and speed in the run game and defense-stressing versatility as a pass catcher, this Rams offense wouldn’t be nearly as difficult to defend. It damn sure wouldn’t be leading the league in scoring through four games, either, and without him, Los Angeles would not be 3-1.

Greg Zuerlein is the NFC special teams player of the week

The Rams offense put up 35 points against the Cowboys last Sunday, but they only got the ball in the end zone twice.

That means there was a lot for kicker Greg Zuerlein to do over the course of the 35-30 win. Zuerlein delivered every time.


Zuerlein hit all seven field goals he tried and added a pair of extra points to account for 23 of the team’s points and continue his perfect start to the 2017 season. Zuerlein has now made 14-of-14 field goals and 14-of-14 extra points for the 3-1 Rams and his most recent outing was determined good enough for the league to make him the NFC special teams player of the week.

It’s the fourth time that Zuerlein has won weekly honors during his career and he joined running back Todd Gurley as winners of a weekly award for the Rams on Wednesday.

I watched Gurley stay after practice and catch balls from Goff, Mannion, Jugs machine, coaches every time I went to Training Camp...every time.

Don't question his commitment (not that anyone here does, but I've seen some hilarious takes on Gurley over the last several months) or his character.
