Even though the relocated Rams have yet to play a down in Los Angeles, the franchise is already making inroads on the airwaves. Running back Todd Gurley, last season’s offensive rookie of the year, is featured in a soon-to-be-released burger commercial for Carl’s Jr.
The “Welcome to California” ad, which debuts Monday, touts the California Classic Double Cheeseburger and co-stars comedian Jay Mohr as Gurley’s agent.
Gurley, walking with Mohr through the halls of a swanky agency, signs a football, poses for a selfie with some fans, and takes a big bite of the burger his agent provides him.
There’s no question Gurley will be a pivotal figure when it comes to the promotion of the Rams. When the club pitched its stadium proposal to the rest of the NFL, it used more than 60 renderings – only one of which showed a Rams logo anywhere on or around the venue.
However, Gurley appeared in several of the slides, including a billboard-sized picture of him in the background of a stadium exterior shot.
