To The Moon

I'm really looking forward to going back to the moon

I was to young to really remember the Apollo mission , and every thing that lead up to them

so I'm really looking forward the the upcoming missions

even if I don't really understand them..................lol

next year ( fingers crossed ) their sending up 4 astronaut on the Artemis II to orbit the moon , but not land

then in 2026 , they'll be sending 4 more astronaut on the Artemis III , in which 2 of the will land on the moon

now here is where I get a little confused , the 4 astronaut's will be in the Orion spacecraft , which will then dock with the lunar lander , which , it appears their not sure which one their using , as they have two different versions

most likely the SpaceX’s Lunar Starship as it sounds like the Blue Origin’s Blue Moon lunar lander won't be ready yet

but I'm assuming , the lunar lander , most likely the SpaceX’s Lunar Starship will be launched at a separate time , then the astronauts in the Orion spacecraft on top of the Artemis rocket will dock with the SpaceX’s Lunar Starship , in which 2 of the astronaut will board the SpaceX’s Lunar Starship and then land on the moon , will stay there for a whole week , then depart the moons surface and redock with the Orion

is that how it's suppose to work ?

Artemis II is scheduled in Sept of 2025 , and Artemis III in Sept of 2026

we know who the Artemis II astronauts are , but I don't think they've announced the astronaut's for Artemis III are yet , the ones actually landing on the moon

I'm assuming it will all get delayed again

so I'm not holding my breath , but how cool will it be to land on the moon as America celebrates it's 250th birthday

Makes me laugh the people who think we didn’t go to the moon before. Pretty preposterous considering the evidence.

I’m happy we are finally doing these types of missions again. It’s been to fucking long. With commercializing space it should help with the costs and making moon settlement a reality in the next 30 years.

Let’s see if we don’t obliterate our species by then.

Artemis is a badass goddess who personally kicked the asses of many Titans. I think her name is perfectly fine to use.

Manned space travel is really really really really really hard.

Only movie I've seen that accurately portrays it is Apollo 13. Wish there were more movies like that. Hollywood still feels they have to ratchet up the drama with implausible bullshit.

Can't wait for the Artemis missions. Given the danger and the cost, I won't hold my breath though... delays are a real possibility.

I get what you're saying about being too young to truly remember it. We're about the same age, so I love to still think that there was a time that I can refer to myself as being Too Young. LOL

But I have to throw this in. One of my very first memories that I have is being at the launch(es). Even being a baby... I have memories of the rocket blasting off drilled into the oldest part of my brain. It's weird since I was so young, but I've read that super drastic experiences are sometimes things we cannot forget.

but the one thing I still remember clear as day , when I was in elementary school , each class room had three pictures on the wall , Washington , Lincoln and the three Apollo 11 astronauts , I can even tell you which wall the hung on............lol

so how many launches have you seen over the years m I cant imagine they would ever get old , especially those night launches

Seen so many, there's no telling. Mostly from my house in the Orlando area, but I've been out at the Cape for a bunch.

The night launches are by far the best. The amount of light created is unreal. If my memory isn't failing... I remember being at a moon launch that was at night and we were standing near a big tanker truck that I think was an emergency vehicle. I was so young though. The night launches for the shuttles were so cool... even 40 miles away.

My favorite launches were the shuttle launches that we watched from offshore in my Grandfather's big sportfishing boat. He kept it at the Cape Marina in Cape Canaveral. We saw some at night and it's hard to describe the beauty with the water and night sky lighting up.

Honestly though... they become mundane when you see so many. Plus, clouds block the view a lot here in Orlando. And the scrubs and delays become expected and annoying enough to cause a loss of interest when you've witnessed them at the Cape and out in the ocean. Seeing one out on the water at night makes the others seem almost lame. I'll always walk outside to look up though if I'm reminded that a countdown is underway.
