I'm sure everyone already knows but I haven't seen a post stating Tiyon Evans being the 1st we've released to this point.

IMO he was brought in to be looked at as a return specialist (P & KO) but he didn't offer anything more than they had with Powell. Powell was a coverted RB who was played as a return specialist and receiver. I still think Xavier Smith who has experience as a return specialist is the most likely to get the position. He has the same speed and size of Atwell, so the question is, do they keep Atwell who is being reduced to a gadget player when Smith can do the same thing but also return kicks? IMO Atwell made himself expendable by not being able to return kicks and taking forever to learn how to run routes. What is sad is that Atwell didn't think enough of his role to learn how to return kicks. He had all the offseasons to simply go to an academy to be coached up on that skill set but he didn't do it. Atwell apparently doesn't understand the more you can do the better his chances of making the roster and staying on it. That's why IMO he will be lucky to make this year's roster.

Is that based on anything you read or heard, or is it just a gut-feeling and guess?

I'm asking because I don't think Tiyon Evans returned a single kick-off or punt over the past two seasons (2022 at Louisville, and 2021 at Tennessee).

That's surprising. Seemed like a kid who might compete for a roster spot if he was willing to bring it on special teams.

He would have been in a battle for the 4th RB spot with Reggie Rivers..... which means he would have been on the practice squad.... so if they didn't see enough long term potential in him to keep him in that spot, now would be the time to move on. We'll come across a guy with more upside to fill that role because having at least 5 guys on the active roster and practice squad combined is the way to go.

Rivers does have the potential to bring something to the table so a rookie is going to have to match that to take his spot.

Before the draft I thought Tavion Thomas from Utah could have been an option for us but he just pled guilty to a couple of domestic violence related felonies so his career is likely done.

I'm thinking the Rams like him and did him a favor by cutting him early so that he could catch on elsewhere, which is precisely what occurred. Rams running back room is already 4 deep with Akers, Williams, Rivers, and Evans, the newbi they must really like, and from what I've read and seen, of college clips, I really like myself

I seriously doubt that the team brought a 225 bulldozer for a look as a return specialist.

My guess it was contractual thing where they planned to re-sign him but got screwed when another team claimed him. Or maybe he broke curfew or something and the team simply used him as an example to the others.
