Time for a Rams throwback jersey change?
Breaking out the blue and white sounds like a great way to honor the late Deacon Jones.
The St. Louis Rams have been wearing throwback jerseys marking the 1999 Greatest Show on Turf team since 2009, much to the delight of fans. The passing of HOF defensive end and outsized franchise legend could give them an excuse to go further back in the team's history, breaking out the blue and white jerseys that Deacon Jones, Merlin Olsen and the rest of the Fearsome Foursome wore back in the 1960s.

The blue and whites aren't everybody's bag, but it would be a great way to pay tribute to Jones and Olsen, who died in 2010. (Lamar Lundy is also deceased, making Rosey Grier the only living member of the original Fearsome Foursome).

This isn't the first time the blue and white uniforms have come up. In an interview with Bernie Miklasz last fall, Rams VP Kevin Demoff said that the team was considering uniform changes, and the blue and white jerseys were one of their top options.

Of course, changing uniforms isn't just a matter of pulling something out of the closet. When Demoff revealed that news to Miklasz, he later told TST that the earliest it could happen is 2014, a wholesale uniform change.

To be perfectly honest, going back to the old blue and white or the blue and gold unis the Rams wear now for their throwbacks would be pretty neat, a big improvement on the current version. Remember, the current Rams uniforms have gold pants ...

GOLD PANTS!

(Okay, the gold pants were killed off prior to the 2012 season, but the fact that they hung around that long still kind of makes the point, no?)

At the very least, maybe the corporate honchos at 345 Park Ave. would loosen up a little and let the Rams wear blue and white throwbacks in honor of Deacon Jones.

The least we can do is ask them.

I'm ready.

I think if we did some kind of poll and sent the results to Demoff it couldn't hurt.

Oh we're bringing them back, Demoff has already essentially confirmed it, without actually confirming it. I don't think they can officially break them out until after next year right? Either way, I'm excited to see what they do.

They have been sporting that blue and white throwback shirt and hoodie for a few months now. I'm all for it. I think that'd be awesome to bring back!!

You're correct -- when the Rams broke out the '99 throwbacks in 2009, they were committed to that throwback uniform for 5 seasons. This upcoming season will be the final year for those throwbacks.

Now...His Majesty (Goodell) and his minions might be willing to make an exception, given the passing of Deacon Jones, and let the Rams switch to a 60's era throwback in time for this season. We'll have to wait and see -- if I had to predict, I'd say the Rams are stuck with the current throwback for this year.

If that is the case, then I really feel sorry for the Steelers and those god awful bumble bee unis they should have thrown out, and never use again !!!

For home games. Blue and gold for away games.

They better sport them this season in Deacons Honor..With the 75 on the shoulder.

Demoff reads the board...SO Kevin..We're calling you out. We want them this season and you have the power to make it happen.

It is the SHOW ME state.

Yes, good idea. They should wear deacons number as a tribute.

If I can find a Deacon jersey. I'll be wearing it every game this season.

PS. Try not to cause as much trouble on this board as you did on the huddle. :ww:

I honestly think we should keep the throwback as a throwback and revert to the Blue and White as the home and road set.

<a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Away_colours" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Away_colours</a>
National Football League
The home team has first choice of colors for its players in NFL games. Most teams choose to wear jerseys in their main team color at home, with the road team changing to white in most cases. The road team might instead wear a third jersey.
White road uniforms came to prominence with the rise of television in the 1950s, with "white vs. color" being easier to follow in black-and-white. According to Phil Hecken, "until the mid 1950′s, not only was color versus color common in the NFL, it was actually the norm", but the use of white jerseys has remained since then. The NFL rules now require that the home team's jerseys must be "either white or official team color" throughout the season, "and visiting clubs must wear the opposite". If a team insists on wearing its home uniforms on the road, the NFL Commissioner must judge on whether their uniforms are "of sufficient contrast" with those of their opponents.
The Dallas Cowboys were one of the first NFL teams to primarily wear their white jersey at home as well as away, as it was not an official rule that teams should wear their colored jerseys at home. Until 1964 Dallas had worn blue at home, but the use of white jerseys was instigated by owner Tex Schramm, who wanted fans to see a variety of opponents' colors at home games. The Cowboys still wear white at home today.

Washington Redskins in white throwback jerseys at home to New York Giants
White jerseys have also been worn regularly by Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins, and sometimes Philadelphia Eagles. A handful of other teams traditionally wear their white jerseys at home during the first half of the season, due to the hot climates in their respective cities.
The Washington Redskins chose to wear white exclusively at home in the 1980s and 1990s, including the 1982 NFC Championship Game. The Redskins have since 2002 occasionally reverted to using their burgundy jerseys for home games in the second half of the season, but still wear white against the Cowboys.
The Cowboys' blue jersey has been popularly viewed to be "jinxed" because of defeats at Super Bowl V in 1971 (when they were forced to wear their blue jerseys as the designated 'home' team), and in the 1968 season divisional playoffs against Cleveland Browns, Don Meredith's final game as a Cowboy.
Super Bowl rules later changed to allow the designated home team to pick their choice of jersey. Dallas's only victory in a conference championship or Super Bowl wearing the blue jerseys was in the 1978 NFC Championship game at the Los Angeles Rams.
Occasionally, teams playing against Dallas at home wear their white jerseys to try to invoke the "curse", as when the Philadelphia Eagles hosted the Cowboys in the 1980 NFC Championship Game, and their November 4, 2007 meeting. Other teams followed suit in the 1980s against the Cowboys, with the St. Louis Cardinals one of the first teams to try. The New York Giants wore white at home against the Cowboys for a time, and the Carolina Panthers, who came into existence in 1995, attempted the gimmick until 2006. In 2008 the 1–4 St. Louis Rams chose to wear white at home, upsetting the blue-shirted Cowboys 34–14. On October 16, 2011, the Cowboys wore their road blue jerseys against the New England Patriots; the Patriots defeated the Cowboys 20–16. The Patriots had worn silver (which is a light color and treated as a white jersey) in their 2003 game at home to Dallas, and white in 2011.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick made the decision to wear white against the Cowboys. He was on the New York Giants coaching staff for some of those years in the 1980s when the Giants bought into the curse. The originator of white home jerseys in the NFL at Dallas, Tex Schramm, said he did not believe in the curse.[/b][/quote]

That's what I thought. Every team needs a home color and an away color. I thought white was the away color but it looks like I was wrong.

So white and blue at home and blue and gold for away games.

One person who is in to the history of uniforms posted the Rams are chaning uniforms come 2015. Going back to the blue & yellows as the primary and the blue & whites as throwbacks. You have to give the NFL two years notice, but maybe they will allow the Rams to don them come 2014.

Any way FWIW's here they are:

New uniforms come 2015!

you know I really like these layouts from Nike. I almost never like changes to our uniforms but I'm pretty sure these two options would be great! What a better way to honor Deacon than Sorting our whites jerseys this year?
