I'm ready.
I think if we did some kind of poll and sent the results to Demoff it couldn't hurt.
Time for a Rams throwback jersey change?
Breaking out the blue and white sounds like a great way to honor the late Deacon Jones.
The St. Louis Rams have been wearing throwback jerseys marking the 1999 Greatest Show on Turf team since 2009, much to the delight of fans. The passing of HOF defensive end and outsized franchise legend could give them an excuse to go further back in the team's history, breaking out the blue and white jerseys that Deacon Jones, Merlin Olsen and the rest of the Fearsome Foursome wore back in the 1960s.
The blue and whites aren't everybody's bag, but it would be a great way to pay tribute to Jones and Olsen, who died in 2010. (Lamar Lundy is also deceased, making Rosey Grier the only living member of the original Fearsome Foursome).
This isn't the first time the blue and white uniforms have come up. In an interview with Bernie Miklasz last fall, Rams VP Kevin Demoff said that the team was considering uniform changes, and the blue and white jerseys were one of their top options.
Of course, changing uniforms isn't just a matter of pulling something out of the closet. When Demoff revealed that news to Miklasz, he later told TST that the earliest it could happen is 2014, a wholesale uniform change.
To be perfectly honest, going back to the old blue and white or the blue and gold unis the Rams wear now for their throwbacks would be pretty neat, a big improvement on the current version. Remember, the current Rams uniforms have gold pants ...
GOLD PANTS!
(Okay, the gold pants were killed off prior to the 2012 season, but the fact that they hung around that long still kind of makes the point, no?)
At the very least, maybe the corporate honchos at 345 Park Ave. would loosen up a little and let the Rams wear blue and white throwbacks in honor of Deacon Jones.
The least we can do is ask them.
