So, is anyone still watching? I wasn't going to but when I heard Andrew Lincoln was leaving the show, I had to see how Rick Grimes is killed off. (Spoiler Alert) Dont read further if you intend to catch up.

The show was a bit boring to start the season. They saved Negan and jailed him. There is predictable conflict between the Saviors and the other groups. But the Saviors have no weapons. It's set a year and a half after the final Savior conflict, so in that time Jadis remembered how to speak English!

The writers seem to be listening to criticism too. There are fewer cars, more horses and motorcycles. Eugene is the structural engineer and chemist who has the Saviors making ethanol and building things.

Rick' ends up with a rebar through his guts and has one last coup de gras, and once again saves everyone from the zombie horde. It was a very improbable outcome, considering the severity of the injury. It looks like Rick is gone forever, but is saved by Jadis and the helicopter people. He's seen alive flying away. I don't like the open ending.

Then in highlights for the second part of the season there is a three + year time jump. Judith is a badass. And again the writers must be listening because the zombies are evolving (kind of dumb idea), but they are becoming more dangerous, or so it would seem.. The show was better when the zombies were more of a threat.

Hopefully the Zombies aren't evolving back to semi human people and the group sits them down in classrooms to teach them how to be civil, and conform to society. I don't want to see Carol having an affair with a dead guy.

After being thoroughly frustrated with the show, and thinking I was done with it, my interest is piqued enough to see where it goes from here. I was sick of Rick and Carl. They are both gone, so maybe it gets more interesting. And the show is promising a new direction. Who knows.

I only read the title and the first paragraph, not the spoilers.

I lost interest in the show with how they made the last season and made it boring with the whole Negan plot.
A lot of the episodes made no sense at all and it was all dragged out.
I think reading the comic made it worse for me.

Still, i watched it week after week, as i was intrigued as to what might happen and often just had it on whilst i was doing something else.

Will likely give season 9 a go.

Wait, so they didn't actually kill kill him off? Only heavily implied it?

That's so fucking lame.

This is exactly what the writers have done for the past few seasons. Pique your interest so you keep coming back for the next season or half-season but with very little substance in between. It pissed me off to point where I finally gave up around the point where the preacher was stuck in the trailer with Negan.

I’m afraid that having a 5 year old girl as a badass is a bit of a Fonzie jumping the shark moment.

I think the last few seasons were bad. I only watched out of habit and hope that it would eventually improve. It was too much wash, rinse, repeat. It appears to be going in a different direction and I read that the got rid of some of the writers.

If I remembered to cancel it on my DVR recording list, I think that I would have forgotten about completely. I saw it on my list one day and figured I might as well check in.

Yes but it was better done than the Fonz. It is absurd seeing her with Michonne’s katana on her back, a pistol, and Rick’s sherriff’s hat on. That was the first clip and I thought to myself,” yep, time to quit”. But the rest seemed more interesting than it has been in years. I was getting fed up with it right after the cannibals season.

Well, they needed to do something to try and get the show out of the funk it was in. The time jump will give them plenty of breathing room to do whatever they want so I'll watch to see what they do. I pretty much figured they would do something like they did with Rick. After the whole Glenn fake out death I've expected it. The movies they'll do with him might be interesting seeing other parts of the world. But will have to see it to believe it. The "evolving zombies" is another great storyline in the comics and should help move on from the Negan fiasco. Course the Negan storyline was great in the comics and they managed to bungle that up so who knows. Shits about to get weird and creepy though.

So, I'm cautiously optimistic. The show will never be as good as it once was again. But this time jump and them kind of resetting the storylines a bit should at least change up the pace of the story to something different. And that was greatly needed.

I had waited until I stacked 4-5 episodes on dvr before watching. And wouldn’t open this thread until I caught up.
Still 1 behind but watched the Rick “death” episode.
Mirror what else has been said. Only watch out of goofy loyalty and habit.
So Rick is off the show but will be in AMC feature films? Please. Rick was always the most annoying character but part of a great crew. I have no desire to watch Rick be all Morgan-like where he carries a new cast.

Still, greatest show ever. I will not stop watching. I love the Negan character. I can only hope and pray he gets Lucille back!

Once I heard the zombies talking, I decided to take this show off of my DVR List. I had high hopes for the zombies to once again become more of a threat, but not by suddenly evolving some intelligence. The show neutralized their biggest draw years ago and it changed the show for the worse IMO. In season one zombies used bricks to smash the glass doors of the Atlanta department store. Ill never understand why they downgraded them. But, talking? Organizing? Evolving that fast? They shows attempt to answer the fans is weak. I can't believe people get paid to write this stuff.

When did the zombies start talking? I've watched episodes 1-7 of season 9, but I don't recall them talking. Where'd I miss it?

Are you sure that it's not just the Whisperer arc? Because the Whisperers are living humans who dress as zombies, and they talk in whispers (hence the name).

I don't follow the comics, or the stuff on the internet. Maybe that's what it is, but it still seems kind of dumb..

Walking around acting like zombies all day, then keeping it up even when chasing someone is a strange concept.

When they were chasing Eugene and Rosita. As the two of them were in the mud you could hear them talking quietly. They were saying not to let them get away. In the last show this fall Eugene tells the others about it.

Ewwwww.... I heard about this once. (Haven’t read the comics) and this could totally be it.
Great call.

Lol. Since I’ve gotten old and my hearing is FS, I watch all my shows with captioning turned on.
TBH, I might have missed it was them “whispering” (thanks @Memento ) if I didn’t see the captioning. Haha

On a side note, just had a mind blown moment.
They had the actress who played Sofia in WD, (she of one of crucial scenes in the show history when she exits the barn as a walker) and it runs out that she is now on my favorite show “Bosch”. In fact, part of why I like the show so much is because of her character and how realistic she is as a teen ager and daughter. Wow
