The true meaning of "house money"

Part of the pre-game narrative was that the Bengals were "playing with house money" because nobody expected them to be there. I doubt, though, that the Bengals saw it that way, and I'm certain they are feeling they lost more on Sunday than mere "house money."

I'll tell you who IS playing with house money...

Us!!!!!!!!

How nice is it to go into an offseason with the feeling we have now?
How nice is it to be able to follow, with great interest, the offseason roster and coaching staff maneuverings without anxiety?
How nice is it to look at the draft as pure gravy, rather than a necessity to rebuild or find missing pieces?
How great will it be to enter next season knowing that we have a team that can win it all, rather than worrying that we might not have enough?

We're the ones playing with house money. Everyone else wishes they were us!

You're right.

That is an excellent way of saying it. One of my co-workers, a Raider fan, said the young Bengals were playing with house money in the Year of the Tiger and they had nothing to lose except win the Super Bowl.

Well, the reality was, the Rams won. And we're the ones playing with house money. And there were more Rams fans at SoFi than Bengals fan.

Even at the Super Bowl parade, Raider bandwagon fans showed up for the Rams. How funny was that?
