How was McVay able to get Wade Phillips? I keep reading that he said he could but had no explanation of the story behind it. Anyone know?
McVay is good friends with Wade's son who was also on the Redskins coaching staff. There was speculation he'd come over too but apparently the Redskins said no and promoted him.

Lets hope that our 3rd corner NR-C can get healthy so he can take over the Nickle post. Thus Joyner can remain in his planned position @ safety. Currently Joyner is the Nickle & safety Blane Countess #24 comes on the field to take Joyner's position.....this has not worked out so well. Marqui Christian has proven to be worse than Countess @ making a solid tackle as well. This is position that the Cody Davis loss has put the Rams secondary in. Cody worked well in this Wade defense IMO.Rams must draft a talented safety again.

In truth Blaine Countess has been responsible for many of the big missed tackles on many of those big offensive plays that the Saints had same can be said about the Viking games too when both NR-C & Webster went out leaving us with Hatfield & Countess on the field....results as we know were BAD! Countess does a good job of placing himself in a position to make the tackle & has excellent speed but over & over again whiffs. He & Marqui must correct this or both will be gone after this season is completed.

Edge Rusher Conner Barwin's injury will take some of the scary away from the Rams. We will see much more of Matt Longacre & Samson Ebukam along with Ejuan Price this Sunday in AZ. The Rams do need to see what they have in these 2 rookies & getting them more snaps will assist this team in the eval as to what direction the Rams go with Barwin & Quinn in the off season. I trust Snead will be able to find some Edge Rushers on the third day of this upcoming draft when the Rams will have 6 draft picks to utilize. Lucky for us 34 D Tweeners are plentiful coming out of college & good ones can be found late into the draft.

We don't even have the personnel to run the 3-4. If we had kept Greg Williams and the 4-3, we would have been even better this year, with an explosive offense to score points and the D could have pinned their ears back.
I do agree with you, but that scenario wasn't an option.
This D will be much improved next season and so will Goff and this offense.

NFL's dynamic duos
BY BRETT WHITEFIELD

Several NFL teams have capitalized this season on having not one, but multiple top performers at complementary positions. For these teams, having a dynamic duo at any given position has really helped to shape their team’s identity. Now, 12 weeks into the season, PFF has a clear-cut view of the impact certain duo’s can have on their respective teams and the league at large.

LOS ANGELES RAMS INTERIOR DEFENDERS AARON DONALD, MICHAEL BROCKERS

Donald has been the premier interior defender for quite some time now; however, this season is shaping up to be his best yet. His 97.3 overall grade ranks first among interior defenders and second across any position this year. Donald leads all interior defenders in pass-rush productivity for the third consecutive season, this year with a mark of 14.9.

He has already produced 62 total pressures, the most among all defenders. While Donald is no slouch against the run, his partner in crime Brockers has been excellent in run defense and is a perfect compliment to Donald’s pass-rush prowess.

Brockers’ run defense grade of 89.8 ranks seventh among interior defenders while his run-stop percentage of 12.3 percent ranks sixth. He has been disruptive against the run all year, racking up 22 runs stops on 179 run defense snaps.

Our future early Ram defense stands to look close to this line up once Free Agency blows through.....

All Pro Level
Below Average Prospect
Empty Hole

ER- Ebukam/ Vacancy
DE- Brockers/ Fox
NT- Westbrooks/ Vacancy
DT- Donald/ Smart
ER- Longacre/ Price

IB- Ogletree/ Hager
IB- Barron/ Littleton

CB- Webster/ Vacancy
CB- T.Hill / Hatfield
SA- Johnson III/ Vacancy
SA- Christian/ Vacancy
NK- Countess/ Vacancy

From this projected line up the SECONDARY will be in for some serious changes & new faces. My projection includes only one highly probable release of $12.4 mil/ 8 yr veteran ER Rob Quinn. Snead & Wade will earn their paycheck early in 2018 they NOW have full knowledge of where they want to take this 34 defense into the future. Wade now knows what he has & what he now need to make it better.

Its useless to guess who the Rams sign in FA'cy or what positions will be drafted, however this does tell you somewhat to expect....The front five posts do appear strong but a little weaker in the NT & ER posts. The IB's post are near all pro level & reserves excellent. If the Rams were to entertain signing or drafting an elite level NT or ER to play next to Donald.... it will help "Big Time" with the pending Donald contract deal.

FWIW's the defense is rated 15th

Well to be fair scoring defense is all I'm concerned with. We're 7th by a nose right now, but most importantly sitting below 19 ppg (18.7).

This group just played their best ball too last week vs the Saints. Things are trending real nice for us and as much as I like Williams' style he's not in Wade's class statistically. This is going to be the first year in a long time we finish in the top ten in scoring D and the Rams are gonna matter come the playoffs. How cool is that.
