HE NFL DRAFT
The NFL combines were in full force
and everyone has an opinion on who to take
And just like my ncaa basketball bracket, it looks perfect.
until they play
When you shake it all down, it is still a crapshoot.
If Bill Walsh had his way in the 79 draft he would of taken Phil Simms
With his first pick but NY beat him to it.
so Walsh in his first pick of the draft took a running back that turned out to be a bust.
So in the third round he took Montana.
Who knows where Montana would of fallen if the "Genius" had his way.
And would the Niners be the team of the 80's with Simms instead of Montana.
A decade ago, the Rams took three defensive tackles in the first round (Lewis and Pickett in 2001 and Kennedy in 2003)
Larry Brooks went in the 14th round.
Brooks happens to be 5 times better than all three put together.
In the 1957 draft, the Rams had the second overall pick.
It was between two running backs.
They decided to take Jon Arnett.
A big reason was he would be a big draw being a USC star.
The guy they didn't take was from Syracuse.
His name was Jim Brown.
If it wasn't for a Ram's scout that went to a game to evaluate a running
Back the Rams were high on, he wouldn't of seen this defensive player
For the other team that was faster than this running back.
So he wrote down his name,
Dave Jones.
Some of you might know him a Deacon Jones, the greatest defensive end to Ever play in the NFL.
And they took him in the 14th round.
When the Rams drafted Lawrence Phillips, Eddie Kennison and Tony Banks,
The St. Louis Dispatch gave the Rams an "A" grade. Saying we stole the Draft.
When the Rams had 3 first round picks in the 1975 draft and didn't take
Anthony Davis of USC, the LA papers slammed the Rams.
Saying Doug France and Mike Fanning were just OK, But, passing on
Anthony Davis for some guy they never heard of playing for a 2nd rate College.
They were talking about Miami and the player was Dennis Harrah.
So when the Rams struck out with all those picks for Eric Dickerson (the best player went to prison FOR LIFE) and The Dallas Cowboy hit HR after HR with their picks for Herschel Walker.
One team becomes team of the 90's and the other is swimming with the Bengals.
In the 1988 draft the Rams took Gaston Green with the 14th overall pick.
The second round someone finally took Thurman Thomas
How many Super Bowls were won by a player not having a strong leg, head or a GM in love with a player
Dan Pastorini leg won two.
The Vikings loving H. Walker won three.
Drew Bledsoe head won 3.
And the Pats and Colts in the same division won 1
Those six acts won 13 SB.
The Raiders started the 1980 season with a 2-3 record.
In the sixth game their starting QB Dan Pastorini breaks his leg.
So a washed up has been the got on waivers has to start.
Jim Plunkett.
He wins the Raiders the SB that season
And another two years later.
The Vikings thought they were just one player from being SB Champions.
That player was Herschel Walker.
So they traded their future by giving the Cowboys six top draft choices.
Because of THE TRADE the Cowboys became a dynasty winning three SB.
By the way the Vikings waived Walker just one year later
The Pats were 0-2 to start the 2001 season.
In the third game their starting QB, Drew Bledsoe, gets knocked out of the game with a concussion.
A sixth round pick named Tom Brady becomes the starting QB.
All he does is make the Pats SB champions that same year.
And makes NE a dynasty by winning two more.
The Pats were offering twice what the Rams were for Marshall Faulk.
But, the Colts (Polian) were not going to trade him to a division rival.
So the Rams got him.
Now I am not saying these were the only reason why they won the SB.
Other players and coaching are needed too.
But, without those six acts you don't win one SB.
They said Al Davis a man that thinks in the future
They said the new England patriots front office is the greatest
And Pastorini doesn't break his leg would that future label stick to Al Davis
And if Bledsoe never got a concussion how great is our front office now
So remember all it takes is one incident and were back on top
The only trouble is I don't know what is the incident
BUT, IT IS EXCITING
