This stat is just jaw dropping; 28 guys on the Rams 2011 roster are out of football. Thank you Mr. Kroenke for Fisher and Snead.

And yet how many times that one of those guys even made one catch and some posters were bemoaning how we got rid of them. I remember Hoo Hoo having a few catches in the Pats game and you would have thought we let Tony Gonzalez go. Even Lloyd, who I like and had a nice season, only ended up with 4 TDs with that great NE Offense, and 2 were vs the Rams.

Obviously not everyone let go couldn't play the game but in looking at how many aren't even in the league, how many contributed very little, and how many Fisher/Snead players have replaced them, you have to be excited about the roster improving over time as the new players develop.

Those were depressing times.

Just to set the record straight about my feelings regarding that group,,, including the coaching staff and FO.
I distinctly remember saying...

Now, I'd like to go back to forgetting those days ever happened.

lol. Yes, I remember that distinctly.

Now let's have a little honest introspection everyone. How many people were disappointed with where the Rams were at the *beginning* of 2011 - before the season started? How many people were bitching about the free agent frenzy the Rams were a part of back then? All the way up to the first offensive series against Philadelphia, I can all but guarantee nobody was bitching.

And then the dominoes fell. Jackson - gone. Amendola - gone. Saffold - gone. Smith - gone. Bartell - gone. Fletcher - gone. Murphy - gone. Salas - gone. Hoomanawanui - gone. Bradford - gone. And so on and so on and so on. Now to be fair, that was compounded by the really shitty decision to hire McDaniels and completely change the system after a lock-out. Not to mention a head coach who tended to play (for lack of a better word) scared for most of the season.

I'm glad we made some wholesale changes, but I always wonder what would have happened if we stayed healthy that year and had a full off-season to get these guys up to speed with the schemes. Just a horrible combination of shitty circumstances culminated in one of the worst seasons I ever witnessed.

Anyway. Long live The Fish!

Well when you skew it like that, of course that's how it's gonna look.

Most of those guys were forced to play b/c of injury.

Yeah but in the end what IMO HAS to be accounted for is the realities that surround that stat.
Spags was a symptom of not the entire problem.
With the length of draftee contracts as they are you have to have demonstrated that you've turned the corner in your third year unless you've secured a five year contract or you are in trouble.
Spags had a 4 year contract and as such had to make his case for an extension in that thrird year so they grabbed some old players and tried to fix all the holes at once, some of whom wonder of wonders got hurt and or were in their last or past their last years of effectiveness.
IF I WERE a coordinator going for a HC job I wouldn't accept a 4 year contract , commitment has two go two ways or it doesn't work out well most of the time.
Spags let some young players go, signed too many old guys and tried to save his job / make a case for an extension, didn't work , he walked into a grease fire in NOLA and now is being held up to ridicule .
I was on the fire Spags bandwagon for other reasons which I will only go into IF ASKED.
His control freak rep is both true of him AND his former boss in NY , it's an attribute if you win a liability if you lose, good players always make you look good, bad ones make you look bad.
You are right Kroenke is the key, an owner interested in winning, hiring an established guy, not someone so anxious to get his shot he half sets himself up to fail when he takes the job.

During one of the games, the announcer said that 34 of the players from that roster were no longer playing in the NFL. Not sure who is right but in either case, it doesn't make a good case for that group. I'll admit that I was behind Spags. In retrospect, it doesn't look like they were building for the future. But being riddled with injuries to key players totally screwed any chance of competing - especially against that schedule.

With all that said, they couldn't get rid of Linny fast enough for my tastes and now we have what appears to be a real quality coach and GM and an owner who I believe is set on rebuilding a winning tradition. So moving forward.....

CGI's list is only those ex-Rams who aren't on any NFL roster (the fact that there's 28 of them is pretty shocking).

Oddly enough, JK is on the Steelers' roster....for now, anyway.

The upgrade/rebuilding of the roster, yes rebuilding, in one off season is just staggering. I didn't like the final roster last year. With only one or two exceptions, I really liked the starting roster this year.

Our weaknesses/depth are very easy to see now, and they are pretty few if you ask me. We need a few starters, and we need some depth, but in the few years prior, it was hard to see what we needed, because it was so much. There is no doubt that the trades have helped us tremendously, and they will continue to do so in the future. Next year looks very bright with a few key acquisitions.

Go Rams.

Yes that list is absolutely ridiculous from just 2011. I remember our cap space was very tight!

No hard feelings to this day toward Spags or Billy D. They gave Fish and Snead a nice head start if you look at the overall state of the franchise at that time.

Just read an interesting article regarding the over haul of Rams player personnel at the end of 2011.

Between the 53 players on the active roster and 16 more who were on injured reserve, only 21 players remained on the team (Rams). At the end of 2012, 28 of the released Rams were not on another team and did not play a single down in 2012. The remaining subset of 20 players found jobs on other teams and were still on their roster at season’s end. Most of these guys were brought in as replacements for injuries, but hey… a job is a job. Although these numbers seem a bit dramatic; at 2-14 it’s pretty obvious you had guys on the team who shouldn’t have been there. On the flip side, there were also a few of guys who left the Rams and went to better situations. The following 2011 Rams moved to 2012 playoff teams:

• TE Billy Bajema, Baltimore

Blocking specialist signed in early August; eight games, one start.

• DT Justin Bannon, Denver

Run-stuffer started 15 games, with 42 tackles, one forced fumble.

• PK Josh Brown, Cincinnati

Signed in early December, made 11 of 12 FGs in four games.

• CB Josh Gordy, Indianapolis

Had 19 tackles, one sack in 15 games, including one start.

• TE Michael Hoomanawanui, New England

Signed off Redskins practice squad; 14 games, six starts, five catches.

• P Donnie Jones, Houston

Finished 11th in NFL in punting (47.2) and 13th in net (40.5).

• LB Bryan Kehl, Washington

Eight games, no starts, six tackles in stints with KC, Redskins. ‘

• WR Brandon Lloyd, New England

Caught 74 passes for 911 yards; two of his four TDs came vs. Rams.

• CB Jerome Murphy, Washington

Eight games, no starts, five tackles with Saints, Lions, Redskins.*

With a 2011 turnover ratio of nearly 70%, we are sure to see much lower ‘don’t let the door hit you on the way out’ numbers for 2012. It will be interesting to see what current Rams players make the 2013 roster. We definitely need to make some upgrades on offense.

Of all those, I only miss Uh Oh. Still think the guy could have contributed more to this team this year and I think he'd have been an upgrade over McNeil. Otherwise, not missing much there. Thought they could have hung on to Murphy a year or so just to see what he had to offer, other guys just don't inspire me much.

I thought Fendi Onobun was part of the 2011 roster as well.
I had hopes for that guy to be a star with the rams.

I thought when Murphy played he showed he was NFL caliber. I'm kind of surprised he's not latched on.
