I in no way disagree with that sentiment.

I just think his genius is way more than that and people are missing it.

He's a coaching/teaching genius.

In this particular area I think we are in very good hands having Mcvay learn from Wade Phillips.

And ultimately I think this year the defense of the Rams is going to challenge that of the offense of the Rams.

Dare I say our defense has a better ranking than the offense at years end?

My concerns are linked to the OL. The last two years it was a top 5 unit. With two new starters there is concern for a regression. Other that Kupp coming back its hard to predict and improvement. If the offense cannot be as prolific as the last two years then opponents will try to control the game through the run. This is an area we have not proven to be stout. I am optimistic that we are better against the pass but I dont know about the run.

You heard Donald correctly @Zaphod.

What was considered by many a 2 or 3 year project by Mcvay to right the ship quickly happened in Mcvay's first season as head coach.

This is the 3rd year that Mcvay, Snead & company have tweaked the roster.

ILB & O-Line have some red flags but as a total 53 man roster that's still being tweaked right up until week 1, , the talent is much better than 2017 and appears to be a little bit better & more polished than the overall 2018 roster.

The Carolina game on a wet or moist field feels like it's going to be a dogfight won in the 4th quarter. The team that wins the turnover battle probably wins this game by 6 points or less.

3 unique games to start the season at Carolina, vs Saints and at Browns. None of these first 3 games feel like they're going to be push overs.

Agreed. McVay bringing Wade in was a master stroke and it bought him a lot of room for error that most first time head coaches don't have. But as you allude to, McVay learning from Wade is going to pay dividends the rest of his career, which is mind blowing when you consider his age.

By the time Wade retires I think McVay will be ready to make a strong DC hire and support him too. Only concern I have is whether the Rams are smart enough to lock McVay up for the long term. Pay that dude top dollar and ensure he's happy with every facet of the front office, because he is worth that effort and will pay off in playoff appearances and championships.

I think it will be up to McVay to decide if he wants to be locked up for the long term. He is videogenic enough that he undoubtedly knows that if he wants to, he will be able to get a lucrative TV deal for big money and less stress. He can do that - and then return to coaching whenever he wants. I'm sure he'll want a few Super Bowl victories first, though. Both for pride reasons, and because he knows they will guarantee him even more money as a commentator.

The NFL world is certainly open for whatever he wants to do. Yes he'd be one of the best analysts ever with his recall and knowledge. But I also think he might want to do some GM work down the road like his grandfather too, who knows.

Either way, make sure it's in horns. Pay that MFer and align everything to keep him around as long as possible.
