I'm thinking about trying my hand at a little recreational gambling for fun, but I have no experience.

I'm hoping some of my fellow rod brethren can reccomend some good websites and tips to get a noob on the right path.

I'm mostly interested in Vegas odds, but I'll be open to trying my hand at one of those fantasy football leagues if anyone out there thinks they're worth playing.

Thanks in advance.

I'll tell you that doing the fantasy football is a better choice to gamble your money! Vegas was built on the money of all the losers! Your ability to do fantasy football will determine your luck. All the Vegas games are stacked against you!

My wife always tells me that instead of gambling I should just give the money, I would lose gambling, to charity. Not much help I know, but in my case the wiser decision.

Start by digging a hole. Make sure you have matches and lighter fluid handy. You probably can guess what comes next.

OK - How about this. Find a sky diving outfit and jump out of a plane. It is a way bigger rush than traditional gambling and you have a far greater chance of winning.

Craps...only stay for :25 mins at tops....bet the crazy odds (8-1 or greater) if the table is hot....if not, stick with the don't pass bar...everyone will hate you but hey, you're there to win money, not make friends....

How's that @LesBaker ?

Actually, it depends on what your talking about. Table games, slots and poker machines - pretty much a loser.

I've never bet anything but football, college and pro, so I can't speak to the other sports. $25-50 on 3 or 4 games makes 'em more interesting if you have no fan interest.
Parlays are fun, 3 and 4 teamers are VERY hard to hit - great when you do though. Relatively speaking though, if your betting 25-50 on a side or total, the parlay would be 25, 3 teamer 10, and a 4- teamer 5. Just my personal rule of thumb. That said, the best handicappers - people that gamble for a living - only have a 55-60% hit rate in the NFL - but they're still making 10-20% on their money, (minus the vig).

But - that's why they call it gambling. Like everything else, it can be fun in moderation.

You've never done this, gambling I mean.

Rarely does anyone make money, that goes without saying. But you want the entertainment, which is understandable. If you want it to be MORE fun dive in without knowing anything. Just spend smaller at first LOL.

When I take a trip to Reno I have one steadfast rule. Take the amount of money I can afford to lose only. Nothing more. If I don't lose it, its a winning trip for me. If I do lose it, well, I didn't break myself and I'll move on. If I win its a nice trip that didn't cost me anything. Might even take another day off and drive to Tahoe for a some lake fun.

The main thing is, only gamble if you can afford to lose a certain amount of money and stick to that amount. Nothing worse than going gambling knowing you're screwed if you lose. I never did that, but I knew someone who did when I lived in Vegas during the early 80's. He was always broke and made some pretty decent money back then. Made more than me.

I love to gamble but snackdaddy is right. The only way to gamble is with funds that you can afford to lose. It's just an advanced way of investing in the stock market, a big gamble these days. The best odds in any casino is roulette betting red/black or odd/even. (47% chance of winning). Just don't get suckered into playing the numbers because that is probably the worst odds in the house. I love table games because of the interaction with all kinds of people. You just have to scout blackjack tables before you sit down because other players can kill your hand.
