With many of us (and well deserved) questioning Chase Blackburn I wanted to give a shoutout to TE Coach Scott Huff and his unit and how the new assistant coach actually seems like an upgrade from previous assistant coach Nick Caley who is now the OC in Houston. When the Rams hired Huff, what I liked about Huff was his OL background with Seattle (one year) and many years in college. Huff was let go by Mike MacDonald in Seattle along with his counterpart Ryan Grubb as the Seahawks made changes to their offensive staff.

The TE group is finally getting the opportunity under Sean McVay and all four Higbee, Parkinson, Allen and the boy wonder Terrence Ferguson are answering the call. The blocking has been stellar and I am sure Huff's background has aided in that area plus they all seem to be ready, willing and able on ever play with Ferguson providing the Rams an extra weapon to stretch the field when covered by a linebacker. So kudos to Coach Huff as I am sure it was not easy losing his job after just one year in the NFL, but Seattle's loss has been the Rams gain.

The next OC and HC in the tree
SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
But yes, agreed. Watching camp film, several vids keyed in on the TE group's blocking. Ferg, imo was the best at it. CP tho kept standing the sled straight up & you could tell Huff wasn't happy, but it's working out very, very, very well. Those 13 packages at the goal line are virtually unstoppable.

I've just accepted his coaching staff will regularly get raided
I think GM scout his coaches just like they do college players.

Stafford has plenty of time to throw the ball and it’s beautiful.
These heavy packages are making it even more fun than normal to watch Stafford.

I like Sean’s 11 personnel offense.
He’s always been reluctant to run 12, so seeing 13 is mind blowing.
Keep it rolling.

He's done a hell of a job. Davis Allen has improved a lot under his guidance. I don't see Allen ever being a top TE, but there's still a good amount of value in a #2 TE who blocks well and has reliable hands. Allen's blocking has improved leaps and bounds. Huff had a great reputation as an OL Coach, and it's easy to see why.

I wonder how long McVay has been planning this TE heavy offense? I suspect it's been years in the making.

They invested in Parkinson and no one knew why. Simultaneously, he was trying to trade up for blue chip TEs.

And now with Ferg he can finally unleash the schematic mismatches he envisioned. He needed a guy like Ferg who could create mismatches by taking advantage of LB heavy defensive personnel.

And us fools were wondering which tight end he was going to cut. :)

Turns out - none of them.

Seems like McVay has abandoned the TE position for many years. Now he is unleashing new TE play packages that no one thus far has an answer to stop. This will obviously only work for awhile til teams can stop it.

But that's the beauty. It will take a while for teams to stop it. They'll need new personnel - specifically more LBs that excel in coverage and stopping the run.

Part of me is wondering if he's going to this because he recognizes that there is a league-wide dearth of great LBs.

It's a cyclical league. I'm betting that he's at the forefront of a trend.

I also don't think Davis "pillow hands" Allen gets enough credit. That guy can play.
Parkinson too! Great work by this TE group this season. Blocking with TEs, and not with WR has helped the o'line. Its helped Kyren and Corum also. Thier Production is increasing as blocking is better. We had 3 blow outs in a row since!

Ferg is gonna be one hell of an offensive TE, once he gets used to playing, and Stafford dont have to yell at him. lol

The only way to stop the mismatch in size is by bringing in more linebackers that can play pass coverage.
But then we have three or four wide receivers that the linebackers can't stick with.

It cannot be defeated I say! :)

Well, get ready. The NFL like to copy what McVay does, we all know that.
Now other teams will try and copy what we are doing and defenses overall will see more of the Rams version of 13 and come up with way to cope with it to a point.
We will have to adapt.
Sure a good thing we have the best coach in the NFL to adapt to teams trying to adapt to what we are doing.
Its a constant cycle and we have the best guy at the helm.

100%

Imitation is the highest form of flattery.

Truth is, whatever Mcvay runs it is successful. Most likely because he coaches it up so well and designs to fit his specific talent sets. Also drafting to fit what he wants to do. He also is king of matching run play to pass play personnel and formations.

But yea, just because it gets copied doesn’t mean it will be successful.
