The wonderlic average score is 21.75 with a standard deviation of 7.6. A score of 7 is nearly two standard deviations below the mean. Anyone outside of two standard deviations is in an outlying 2.5% of the population. So Austin is less intelligent than approximately 97% of the world.

Furtheremore, In IQ testing, two standard deviations is a 70, which if below is the criteria for mental retardation. Essentially, based on that score Austin nearly has mild mental retardation.

I'd say that's unlikely. It's more likely that he didn't take the test seriously, didn't take his education seriously or has a learning disability...like Morris Claiborne.

Having taken the wonderlic, reading comprehension is a big part of achieving a good result.

Reading comprehension is not a sign of intelligence, but a form of processing information from written information / questions.

If you have to think about the words you read... it will slow you down and effect your score.

You still might get the question right, but you will answer less of them. Lower score.

This is why I believe the opinions that Austin will be okay. And... Why guys like Marino and Kelly scored poorly but could handle the complexity of an offense.

Now, if you get a bad vibe on the work ethic (Patterson) that's a scary situation. He will need to work harder than the average Joe to "get it". So... In his case, the work ethic is a concern.

I've personally administered the Wonderlic exam (for 25 years I might add).

It tests for much more than just reading comprehension. While there is a Wonderlic test that examines reading comp by itself,,,, the exam given to these kids is not that particular one.

We admin the wonderlic on every employee we consider for employment. I feel fairly knowledgable on this topic, so I'd like to hear more from you.

How does the actual Wonderlic compare to the samples out there?

A year or two ago,,, I may have emailed a current example of an actual Wonderlic used for these guys. Paul may still have it,,, I may have scanned it to him so he could post it for everyone to try.

The particular test used for the kids coming out of college tests vocabulary , math , basic knowledge, and problem solving. No real reading comp. The questions get more difficult the further into the exam... 50 questions. Weighted for age as well.


I can send another one that is current tomorrow if you are interested.

I assume so. I'm just a trader though. I didn't construct this one.

50 is a perfect score.

The older you are,,, you may get a point or two added. The older you are.. more "extra credit".
