Tannehill anyone (once he's cut)?

Honestly I really feel McVay drafts ‘his’ custom back up this draft for his system. It makes to much sense to have a guy 4 years on a rookie when Goff is about to make a ton soon.

Having either one of these guys isn’t realistic without sacrificing in another more important area of need.

Even if we are to get a solid vet like Tannehill for $5m (absolute max I would want Rams to pay) what happens next year when Goff gets paid. We need a solid backup QB on his rookie contract. Perhaps someone from the AAF league or a draft pick.

I don’t disagree, but I think they’ll have to have some sort of cheap vet on the team in 19 as the rook gets his feet wet.

Since the Rams aren't going to use anything higher than a comp 3rd for a QB, they need time to develop him. So they need a QB who can come in if Goff gets knocked out for a quarter or a half, and still can run the offense decently, so that a lead won't be given up - or at least so the Rams have a realistic chance of holding a lead.

But yes, the Rams need to have a pipeline of young QBs who are cheap ultimately. When one is getting close, draft another. If one looks really good, draft a year early, so he can be traded maybe. It doesn't always work, but the Patriots show done right it's a good way of having good backups and picking up either picks in trade or comp picks.

I would love Tannehill as a backup QB, getting paid backup money. So would every other NFL team, I imagine. That's because he isn't a backup level QB IMO. He's more of a mediocre starter. Similar to Case Keenum in that regard, although their playing styles are quite different. Tannehill won't be a Ram. He'll get a deal richer than what we can offer from somebody else.
