I rarely participate in the off season banter about our team. Why? Well yesterday is a prime example. I do read the board and listen to the talking heads. And as far as I could tell from all the information out there. We the Rams were total trash as a team. I heard it and read it everywhere. We were an after thought. Now my non comments in the off season stems from the St. Louis years where each year of Fisher we were always the team to watch, the team you don't wanna play early on. Mostly wasn't true. So I prefer to set back and see what we put on the field. And I am not an expert or talking head. I don't know how far we will go. But from what I saw yesterday, my opinion is we will be in every game we play. (without injuries) And that's fine with me. So to all the talking heads and experts and predictors.(even on this board sadly)
Kiss my ass! In the nicest possible way of course.

The talking heads, or so called experts as they prefer it, tricked me into buying their claims. After hearing so many say how bad it was, I thought it must be true. Can't be that many who are wrong. Well, turns out there is that many.

They were lazy. They saw the 5 win season. They saw all these defensive players no longer on the team. They saw a bunch of first and second year players. What they didn't pay attention to was the injuries to the offensive line that derailed the offense. They didn't notice the 14 different offensive line combinations. They didn't notice the team was reaching into the bargain bin taking guys off the street to protect the quarterback. They didn't pay attention to the poor pass protection that ended Stafford's season. Or the bad pass from a backup that caused Kupp's season ending injuries.

What they saw was 5 wins and 8 defensive starters gone. They never considered that those were players that contributed to the 5 win season and maybe a change is not a bad thing. They never considered this team could beat a playoff team from last year and hold them to 12 second half yards. They never considered they could be wrong. They were wrong.

Does anyone really believe we hold Seattle to 12 yards in the second half if both their tackles don't get injured and Lockett isn't in and out of the game during concussion protocol?

I love love love the defensive performance we had - the strength of it being our secondary - but our run D and pass rush need to be better to win games after week one and against teams that are more consistent and aren't blown up by injuries.

Mike Florio and his sidekick Sim’s totally destroyed the Rams in their pregame selection piece. They said the Seahawks had much more talent and it was likely to be a huge blow out. Florio said that the Rams will pay a long time for the F them picks. Florio has a prime spot on the NBC telecast. Wonder how they feel about how both their so called experts and insiders got caught with their pants down. That wasn’t a fluky fumble and interception filled game it was a complete physical domination on both sides of the ball for the Rams in the second half. Seahawks gained a total of 12 net yards in the second half.

Florio and Simms are clueless trash.

Hmm. Don’t remember the Rams getting a pass or any sympathy when their entire offensive line was injured. Those wins still counted for those teams an Rams took those losses in their record. Don’t remember seeing any asterisks next to the final season record.

Actually it was only 3 yards before the final run play to finish the game. Every NFL offensive lineman is capable of playing their position. They wouldn't be in the NFL if they weren't. I think you're doing the Rams defense a disservice by using that as an excuse for a dominating second half performance.

I seriously doubt the Seahags would be scoring more than the Rams if they didn't lose their tackles. I don't think they score anything but maybe a field goal or two. If that.

And they will never admit they were wrong. They'll just move onto week 2 and throw darts to make their predictions while collecting their paychecks.

Some of these guys are expected to comment on the entire NFL so their analysis on any one team doesn't go beyond the surface. Especially when that team isn't expected to do much. So they just lean on the laziest possible narrative.

I also think there are some stick in the mud commentators still pissed the Rams won a Super Bowl the way they did. They think the Rams should do penance or go through some kind of purgatory for "selling their soul" and that sort of horse hockey. Those dire predictions are some sort of wish fulfillment.

The Rams flout convention and they turn narratives on their ear. That's who they've been and who they'll continue to be.

We can't have it both ways. We put a lot of last years failures on the Oline injuries. As I see it, the great D adjustments might have been due to their Oline missing 2 starters. Because the D turned it on about the same time as they left the field.

But... but... Jourdan says both things can be true...

Did I say the win shouldn't count?

12? No. But I don't think their offense gashes our defense in the second half either. They didn't in the first half except for a few plays. They had one TD in that first half and we stopped them on their other possessions. We made some adjustments at the half and curb stomped them. IIRR, most of the QB pressures were coming up the gut or inside the tackles. I think it no doubt hurt them but I don't think it cost them the game.

As far as Lockett... He wasn't in and out of the game - was he? I thought he was out for one series and looked fine.

Total game-changer, how we played the Seahags in the second half. I did not expect much, and I am ready and willing to eat serious crow on it. How about crow gumbo? Mmm...

This is a very reasonable take. My experience on here is if you disagree with people, they automatically assume you mean the exact opposite. Our D can have both outperformed expectations AND benefited greatly from the Seahawks injuries on offense in the 2nd half.

What I'm curious to see going forward is can our D consistently outperform expectations game in and game out? I have my doubts but I also was encouraged by some of what I saw last week (great secondary play as long as penalties get cleaned up).

Yeah, maybe it was only one series for Lockett, providing a small impact to the game.

You got to make a living but I’d be embarrassed to walk the streets if I was Florio. Very biased, wrong, subjective view of the NFL world.

Foolio still has the Giants, Steelers, Chargers ahead of the Rams (14-16; Rams #17).

Lmao! Every nfl olineman is capable of playing their position? Did you forget a man named Evans? Demby? Bruss? Robinson?

If your statement is true, then what are the excuses for last season?
