The good the bad and the ugly.
My list:

Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars
Return of the Jedi
Rogue One
Revenge of the Sith

-----------------
Force Awakens
Solo
Attack of the Clones
Phantom Menace

Last Jedi

ESB has it all but not too much of any one thing. It's darker, yet funnier than SW and really expanded on all that was great about the original.

The only reason i don't put Rogue One ahead of ROTJ is because i can't fuck with the original trilogy. The final scene in RO might be my favorite SW scene ever.

The third act of ROTS was outstanding enough to push it way up for me. The drop off from ROTS to TFA is huge.

TFA just didn't work for me. Too much rehash, even for an original 70's fan like myself. Worthless new characters that do nothing. Unnecessary family ties. Whiny villain.

Solo was kind of fun but could have been much better.

The Last Jedi was not only a bad SW movie but a badly made movie. Its like a B movie with blockbuster special effects.

As for the new one coming out soon...i'll wait for Netflix.

Rogue One was fucking awesome. That final scene, along with an excellent story and acting, really sold it to me. I know that it's blasphemous to most Star Wars fans, but it goes to the top for me.

I loved the original trilogy. Nothing much to say about that.

I will say that Finn is an excellent character in the newest films, so that gets my vote.

As for the prequels, all I have to say is this: Absolutely. Fucking. Hated. Them. Jar Jar Binks wasn't even the lowest point of them, even though it was pretty fucking low. No, the lowest point was Darth Vader going from space's biggest badass to a whiny little bitch with severe mommy issues.

Mace Windu was the only redeeming quality in those films (because hey, Samuel L. Jackson), but it wasn't enough. Just fucking atrocious excuses for films.

I cant really rank them in order because of the times they were made, and each had their own unique vibe.

From the original I have it has 5, 6, and 4.

I thought the OG was a bit bland.

The prequels get too much hate. They were very unique and out of the box. I liked seeing all the various beings and droids in the universe. Plus, Episode 1 had pod racing.

I think Episodes 7 and 8 are fine, again they get too much hate. I liked 8 more than 7, again its different.

I cant wait until Episode 9. Will watch in theaters.

Finn is a terrible character. He's a coward, through and through. I'm trying to think of one redeeming quality he has or anything positive he's done for the story. In TFA he wasn't so bad as he had an OK character arc, but that whole character arch went to crap in TLJ.

That was awful. To be fair though, George Lucas didn't write or pan any of this and basically tried to backfill shit into a story he had no idea how to manage. The whole thing was basically a one shot that made too much money to stop. I have a laundry list of reasons we can safely assume that George Lucas can't write for crap and/or had absolutely nothing meaningful to do with the story that is Star Wars. Darth Vader being a whiny punk in his younger years is the least of the issues.

Finn's supposed cowardice has a lot to do with being a stormtrooper who was taken from his family at a very young age and not wanting to get involved with the war. He killed Captain Phantasma (with the awesome line, "Rebel scum" no less) and tried to sacrifice himself to stop the Empire from breaking through the door in TLJ, so I don't know why you call him a coward. Cowards don't do those things. People who are scared but brave enough to not stand by and do nothing...they do those things. And that's what makes his whole character for me.

He runs from being a stormtrooper, which is understandable, but it didn't seem to me like he didn't want to get involved with the way so much as he just couldn't bring himself to do it. If it was a moral "the first order is bad" thing I would assume he'd jump at a chance to join the rebellion. But instead all he did was attempt to con his way out of trouble and ended up getting thrown into the rebellion. He started to make progress toward the end of that movie, which was fine. TLJ should have built on that.

Instead in TLJ we see he again running. Not from being involved with the bad guys, but just from having to deal with any conflict. He runs from conflict. And when he gets caught, he runs from conflict with the person who catches him and lies/cons his way into his next adventure where, once again, he starts to make progress at the end.

But it's never a choice to really do the right thing out stand up to evil so much as it's about either saving his life or avoiding a greater conflict.

Also, as a failed stormtrooper who clearly has an aversion to almost all forms of conflict he should have been destroyed by Captain fantasma. She's a battle hardened warrior who has put time and effort into her craft and risen through the ranks based on what we can only assume is her wild success. And she gets defeated by Finn? I'm not buying it.

This task you ask for, impossible it is.

That said Empire is my favorite. And I don't dislike the recent movies nearly as much as most do.

My rankings for the Skywalker sagas:

The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars/A New Hope
The Force Awakens
Return of the Jedi
The Last Jedi*
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones
Phantom Menace

*Note that I judge my movies not solely on writing but also on cinematography as well. TLJ's writing is a mess to me but a lot of it's cinematography was absolutely beautiful and lifted it enough to be above RofS.

I just can't wait to see Star Wars content beyond the Skywalker's; I'm burnt out seeing them and how it inhibits creative freedom for the writers/directors.

I never got into the others as much. I’d have to look at them closer to rank. These 3 were easy.

I just read an article that says there's a YouTube "insider" or something claiming that the screenings of #9 are so bad that Iger is mandating they redo huge chunks of the film. And apparently the solution is to bring in George Lucas. I guess despite not knowing how to write a coherent story, he did build an effing huge fan base by following the shit out of the Rule of Cool. Maybe he'll up the cool factor even if he takes all the sense, logic, and reason right out.

I can tell you with 100% certainty having had a father spend almost 40 years in the industry that whoever is pushing that story completely made it up. None of that is how it works.

It's similar to people pushing the "They're going to fire Kathleen Kennedy and put J.J. Abrams in charge" rumors as if the next step from directing is being a fucking studio head. People who don't know anything about how the industry works will push stories using familiar names to give some sense of credibility.

Well thank God.
