I don't disagree but that particular problem is pretty far down the list of shit to fix.

Seriously though, when your QB gets sacked 7 times and your defense can't force the other team to punt, how often do you win those games?

How do we know though ? How many times did Stafford hold onto the ball because Kupp was his only read? Many things went wrong. Anything could've helped. Like sustaining drives and not targeting Kupp like he's the only guy out there.

Almost never. But the score was 10-10 at halftime. The game was in reach. And we could've kept the defense off the field with sustained drives. You don't sustain drives by locking onto one guy all night.

Because you put the cart in front of the horse. Protections always come first.

Exactly. 3-4 of those sacks were Stafford holding the ball to long and not going through his progressions. Robinson was beating his guy like a drum today and you can't convince me Stafford didn't see that when he went to the sideline and looked at the tablet. He choose to not look his way. Completely inexcusable from a 13 year vet.

Agreed it was painful to see like 0 effort to get your 2nd biggest weapon involved. In the 4th quarter during the last few drives how does McVay not tell Stafford to get something throw towards Robinson? why not force it to him when it was over already anyway? Seemed odd

And if the protection is bad, make the reads quicker. We should know this. Teams do it to us all the time. You can't stare down one guy and wait for him to get open.

Someone mentioned a play where Robinson broke free on a slant and Stafford looked right at him and scrambled instead. Now maybe he saw something they didn't (defender coming up lay him out maybe?) But as you said it was there all night.

I don't wanna be too negative after game one but Woods cleared the air about this same thing last season.

.

that makes me feel much better about arob.

something for mcvay to work on. it's so easy to get infatuated with kupp on the field. goff loved throwing to him as well.

but you gotta use everyone. for kupp's sake as well so he can have some breathing room.

.

Yes we do know it. McVay knows it. Stafford knows it. Coen knows it. The mailman knows it. It's just gonna take a back seat to sorting those protections.

The pass distribution chart sure screams Kupp goggles.

But I'm not too sure about those yards of separation stats. Stafford's quick postgame off the cuff take was that the defense only played two snaps of man. So against mostly zone, talking about separation, without mentioning depth of route or whatever else, seems incomplete.

Hoping for a breakdown of the nickle safety same side Cover 3.

They had no time to build that chemistry with Staffords elbow issues. I imagine it’ll be a few games before things start clicking with them

Stafford and Robinson didn't have a lot of time to build chemistry. That's going to matter a lot when the OL isn't holding up. Stafford is going to go to the guys he trusts when under pressure. Give it time.

I got up at 4 am to watch this shit show. Just after 5 am I set off the smoke detector burning some toast and waking the wife and hounds.

I said to her then: We're getting hammered.

She asked what the score was and I replied 10-10.

She rolled her eyes and went back to bed.

But I honestly thought that.

I didn't expect anything other than they were going to pull away.

I think McVay suspected something too because I thought going for that 4th and 2 was ridiculous so early in the game.
